1993 Ford Escort LX 1.9 gas

Summary:

Cheap but reliable auto!!!

Faults:

Clutch problem when I got it, but I was informed before I made the decision!

General Comments:

This Escort is the first car in my life. I got it for just USD$1,800 and it had 123000 miles on the odometer. Because of this Escort, I have a great impression about the reputation of Ford.

1993 Ford Escort GT 1.8T DOHC 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great value

Faults:

Clutch will wear out at around 120,000km or about 80,000 miles.

Ignition lock cylinder sticks and can snap rendering your car unstartable.

Luckily, this is an 80 dollar fix.

Suspension has been a little rough in the last 40,000km or so.

General Comments:

This is a surprisingly good car considering its economy class. Lots of pep and good on fuel.

It can take quite a beating and is reliable for a daily driver car.

The engine (being Mazda J-Spec) seems like the toughest component of the car, which is likely why it's still running smoothly with 185,000 km on it.

OK car for the $$, not very comfortable to sleep in, decent performance - could use some mods

Faults:

With in the time I have owned it, I have had to replace the timing belt, serpentine bel,t wires and spark plugs. Soon I will have to replace the clutch.

General Comments:

I think I was deceived by the owner of the car lot.

Drove a '95 LX wagon, wasn't too impressed with its lack of grip on a dry road.

It's a cool car. I fixed mine up, removed the filter box and added a filter cone in its place to give a nice hummm, and 10 to 15 horse power. Added a few Ford and text decals. A good, different car other than the too trendy Hondas.

1993 Ford Escort LX 1.9

Summary:

A fast, sweet bargain!

Faults:

Engine went at 144,600 kms, due to a broken head bolt.

183,000kms, the timing belt went.

General Comments:

Put 195/50/15 tires on, takes the corners like there's nothing there.

K&N air filter, noticeable power difference.

Running a straight pipe, 2.5", no mufflers, with a dual 3" stainless steel tip, another noticeable power difference, plus a great sound.

Plus, I have it accessorized to the nuts, it's a great looking car if you spend some money on it.
