1997 Ford Escort LX

Summary:

Totally perfect, even for a 18 yr.old

Faults:

My Drivers side parking light went out and it was impossible to find in Alaska.

General Comments:

This car was the best vehicle, I have ever owned.

This car acted like a 6cyl. with it only being a 4 cyl..

It did however whine like a baby with a tooth-ache, going up mountains in Alaska.

The heat that came from the heater was unbelievable. It was perfect. It got hot fast and the car held the heat well (even with a opening in the window; for us smokers)

It handled great. It hugged turns. It even had wonderful stopping capability on ice. (without studded tires)

It did however freeze over three times in the winter. (after hitting -30; without proper winterizing) But that was my fault!

I miss this car soo much. I lost it after a friend totaled it. I never got it replaced. I wish I had.

1997 Ford Escort Base

Summary:

Double My Pleasure

Faults:

Radiator went on both 97 escorts I own at 100000 miles.

Gas gages on both cars no longer work.

General Comments:

Followed The maintenance schedule to the letter and have been rewarded for doing so.

Both cars have over 120000 miles on them.

Back seats are cramped when tall people occupy front seats.

Good on gas.

1997 Ford Escort LX 2.0

Summary:

Great bargain

Faults:

I have a difficult time increasing speed with the air conditioner on.

The rear-view mirror easily falls off.

Quite uncomfortable on long trips. I can usually last for about 3 hours before needing a stretch.

The cup holders do not fit pop cans.

General Comments:

I have had great experiences with this car, such as gas mileage and reliability.

Having the car for almost 4 years, we have spent less than $500 Canadian on unforeseen repairs.

Generally, we can get 550km per tank, compared to 250km with my previous vehicle, which was a Ford Taurus.

1997 Ford Escort LX 2.5L.

Summary:

A car that needs no love

Faults:

Thermostat stuck at 40,000mi. Had to shave head and replace head gasket.

Both front rotors have warped, twice.

Changed spark plugs and timing belt at 160k. miles.

General Comments:

I like this car. I have seriously ran the tar out of it.

I change the oil around every 12 thousand miles.

I think this car has held up well considering I drive it 130 miles per day to work and back.

I usually exceed 95mph at least once a day for a 10 to 15 mile stretch.

1997 Ford Escort LX 2.0

Summary:

I love my little, purple car!!!

Faults:

The biggest problem I have had is that the seats are very uncomfortable for long-distances. I have only had this car for about 5 or 6 months and I have already put 17000 miles on it, one trip of 1500 miles one way and two of 850 miles one way... needless to say, my toosch is a bit sore in the end.

Also, during these long highway trips, the noise is uncommonly loud.

On a trip to ND (I live in GA) I was again thankful for my 400+ miles per tank however, for unknown reasons, during my stay up there (three weeks) my fuel economy dropped to about 270-300 per tank!! I changed the air filter before I left though and it eased back into its wonder 400+.

I need new struts, but that is because my travels aren't strictly limited to the highway. I love going on those mountain dirt roads... and even across the occasional creek or log.

Oh, my tape deck has went out also.

General Comments:

I love my little car!!

As I have mentioned, I drive it a LOT and I have had no major problems.

I change the oil and filter every 3-5000 miles, throw a gas treatment/fuel injection cleaner before every long trip and give a car wash every so often and it does me quite well.

I get an average of 32-37 mpg and I love it.

It has a nice, little engine that gets me where I go when I need to get there and the good handling keeps me on the road when I'm going faster than I should.

I have the wagon model and I love the room that it offers. I have more than once put the seats down and taken a little snooze. I've also had it packed slam full on a couple of moves. I had to strap some on top, but it did it!

Overall, as I have said, I love my little car. The only qualm I have about it is that it seems to nice to take it some of the places that I do... maybe I should get a truck also, but I'd never get rid of my little purple car.
