2003 Ford Escort ZX2 2.0 DOHC
Summary:
It gets great gas mileage and is not designed for rough roads!
Faults:
At 80,000 miles the low fuel light came on, and it suddenly acted like it had ran out of gas and would not start. I realized the fuel pump fuse had blown and replaced it, and it ran for 10-miles until it did the same thing again (blew the same fuse).
I later pulled up the back seat and realized the fuel pump wires were burnt! I pulled the fuel pump out and the wires on the inside of the tank was burnt also. I replaced the fuel pump sending unit, fuel pump driver module and the shut-off switch, which all had burnt wires.
The car ran great until 85,000 miles, and it did the same thing again. Took it into a shop and they replaced the wire from the firing wall to the shut-off switch, and that fixed it.
General Comments:
My 2003 ZX2 has been great besides the fuel wiring issue and the common Escort vibration.
My gas mileage is usually around 32-35 mpg.
The only things I don't like about my ZX2 is the space on the inside and it's not very powerful, but in all that's what I get when I buy a small 2-door coupe!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
