Great vehicle if you need a lot of room, comfortable, reliable, low MPG
Spark plug shot out of the head. Just out of warranty so dealer put me on a program where I only payed part of the cost. Head had to be replaced. Could have probably used a heal-a-coil if dealer did not step up.
Otherwise, very reliable.
Very roomy and comfortable on long trips. Excellent off road, this unit had factor air suspension and LSD differential. Engine power was marginal, had to get into the very high RPM's to get much power. Averaged 12.5 MPG in mixed driving. Vehicle did not track very well on the highway, even with new premium michelin tires and font end allignment.

Safe in drunk driving collision!!!
One coil pack needed replacing $130.
Harness (something to do with intake) had a hole in it and needed replacing along with new brakes (expected) total was $350 for all.
Back seat is only for children due to lack of leg room, but great for kids with side cup holders, etc.
Handles great and runs smoothly. Extremely comfortable.
We were impacted in the rear panel by a drunk driver running in excess of 50 MPH and my expedition held up SUPERB. Cop was shocked at how well it took that impact and we all walked away with only sore muscles. Car is probably totaled due to damage underneath after running over a bumper from other vehicle, but passenger compartments were extremely safe and that is what matters when you have children as we do. We will be in the market for another Expedition if this one is totaled. Preferably the 2003 since the third seat folds into the floor. This really does make a difference for groceries, hauling, etc.

Great for towing, big families, and big jobs
Ventilation fan motor went bad 1st year (warranty)
Front tires develop scalloping - better after alignment. Still got 60K+ miles out of 1st set; still on 2nd set.
Windshield washer button failing (works 20% of the time now)
Uses more oil than it should (always has) - 1 quart every 1500 miles? Ford says "normal".
Valves noise on startup - more than normal.
Broke front anti-sway mounts 2 years ago (easy DIY repair with $26 kit)
Front pads at 65K; Midas shop botched rotors, but gave me a break on the price.
Have done most of my own repairs. Rear caliper breaks at 100K were a breeze (1st replacement for them).
Seats are not that comfortable - I liked the bench seat in the F150 better.
Very happy with reliability, usefulness, and still love the looks / paint.

Superb family car without limitations!
Two days after getting the truck we were driving at night and the headlight would flash like they were trying to go out. Only happened a couple times that night. Two months later they went out completely and the alternator quit charging. Dealer found the problem to be a bad fuse block and the complete unit was replaced. They also replaced the GEM module (General Electronics Module?). Total for repairs was $500.00.
After the repairs the compass no longer worked, I never returned to have it checked.
Front roll stabilizer link broke. Probable cause was some aggressive 4 wheeling. $10.00 fix.
Seat belt latches for right rear and center seat both broke. Replaced with parts from salvage yard, $30.00. Breakage was caused by tilting rear seat for 3rd seat access, then catching seat belt latch as seat was tilted back down.
Replaced disk brake pads on all four wheels. Rotors and calipers were in excellent condition.
I change the oil at 3000 miles, and filters as needed or at 5000 miles.
Living in northern Wyoming I actually use my Expedition's 4 wheel drive in all extremes.
Ground clearance is excellent.
Handles and performs very well in deep snow and mud.
We have driven cross country numerous times, I am very impressed with the room and comfort.
Visibility around the truck is very good for such a large vehicle.
My wife and I are both very impressed and pleased with this truck. We are presently looking to get a second Expedition to replace her car.

So tell me, exactly how big was this car that rear ended you? cuz I got rear ended by a durango doing about 40 and the rear-end was crumpled up into the car to the rear doors. my dog flew into the window and suffered a concussion.
