Faults:

Rear tail gate latch stopped working Fixed with some wd40

Brakes not sure when they were done last, but only took 30 minutes to change.

Driver door power lock will not work for unlocking or unlocking Either does the rear door lock.

Drivers door seat belt does not always retract fully gets jammed.

The light behind the radio station display is burnt out and you cannot read it in the sun or at night.

Has the engine knock, but know a guy that has a 91 with over 400,000 km and it has the same knock.

General Comments:

Has lots of get and go drives nice on the highway, and side streets a bit rough when hitting some bumps. Great seats would have like to have hard the power seat option in cloth. Don't like the leather.

Can carry lots of gear fold down rear seats are great. Would have been nicer if you could put a 4x8 sheet of plywood down flat in the back.

Faults:

Parking brake cables every other year - like clockwork. Poor design!

Exhaust replaced from cat to tailpipe every 3 years like clockwork (live in northeast).

Flexible brake hoses on front replaced twice when I owned it - poor design!

Clutch plate replaced at 90K.

Shocks replaced at 100K.

Starter replaced at 100K.

Sway link bushings at 150K.

Drive shaft u-joints at 110K. Axle U-joints at 130K.

In last 3 years of its life rust, rust, rust. Entire driver's side rocker panel was gone, rear door, rear bumper, and around gas door.

General Comments:

Fun to drive for a truck; bouncy ride, but great pickup and handling.

Fairly easy to repair for intermediate home mechanic. Need a couple of special tools for hubs, fuel filter. And time, of course.

Never had a problem starting - not once in 9 years!

Faults:

Blown head gasket in 1995.

Replaced muffler 2 times and resonator/tail pipe assembly 3 times during 8 years.

Required 93 octane fuel (supposed to run on 87).

Engine cut out under acceleration (dealer could not fix).

Transmission needed rebuilding at 117000 miles.

Two trips to dealer to fix the radio when new, radio quit working in 1996.

Rear wiper motor quit in 1996.

General Comments:

Early 1991 model Ford Explorer, Ford did not have all the bugs worked out at the time it was built.

Faults:

This vehicle is 10 years old and has 260,000 miles on it. It has been a champ.

The transmission finally died at 256,000 miles and I had it rebuilt, other than that only the front right automatic hub and the water pump have had problems.

I use Mobil One synthetic oil and I ordered the vehicle with a transmission cooler and the super cooling package with a larger radiator.

General Comments:

This has been a very reliable vehicle, most of its 260,000 miles have been on the highway, but it has also been on most of the class 5 four wheel drive roads in Colorado. I couldn't be more pleased.
