2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4 litre V6

Summary:

Problematic, but a great vehicle overall

Faults:

Front brake pads had to be replaced.

Electrical issues that have yet to be resolved.

Had to replace the battery and bought 5 brand new tires.

Transmission was leaking slowly.

Front axle was seizing up and would have needed replacing soon.

General Comments:

Truck is very solid and saved my bacon in a accident where I was hit by a bus.

Hard on gas, but very responsive.

Lots of handy features.

2000 Ford Explorer XLS V6

Summary:

A complete waste of money and an inconvenience to every aspect of my life

Faults:

Tires recalled.

Seat bolt recalled.

Ignition backed up and ignition wires burnt out.

New steering column.

New power steering unit.

The check engine light goes on every 200 miles or so.

Replaced every spark plug in the engine numerous times.

Engine overheated even after coolant was refilled many times, and after entire system was checked for leaks.

Rattling noise persists even after missing engine parts were replaced.

Car jerks back and forth due to a poorly assembled steering unit.

The luxury of driving 12 rental cars and riding in 4 different tow trucks as my car was taken to the shop to get "fixed".

Literally about 50 more problems I've had in the last 2 years.

General Comments:

If I had no warranty with this car the total amount I would have paid to get it fixed every time it broke down would be well over $10,000.

There are absolutely no perks to this truck, because even in 4 wheel drive it handles pretty rough in the snow.

2000 Ford Explorer LXS 4 litre

Summary:

My daughters and I love the look and ride!

Faults:

I have had this vehicle for 5 months and it has a few problems. The vehicle wouldn't start several times so the alternator was replaced. Still having problems with it not starting. The doors in the rear won't open all the time and now one is broken. The gauge for rotations per minute constantly go up and down when starting vehicle. There is a strange noise when starting vehicle? Doesn't happen all the time however.

General Comments:

Nice looking vehicle, but unsure if I will be happy long term with it. Just went on my first long road trip and it performed well despite problems I have been having with the doors and hard starts. I need to spend some time and money on a few repairs and maintenance and hopefully resolve problems. I find that the vehicle is a water sponge. Every time it rains I find water around the inside of the doors. Have to wipe them down. Starting to rust there.

2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 V6 EFI

Summary:

For the most part, a very big disappointment

Faults:

I had to replace the transmission at only 40,000 miles, which I thought was absolutely ridiculous.

Seems to be a never ending money pit, with little, but frequent, services needed.

Even though I'd say most of the parts that needed to be replaced were routine, I didn't expect to have to replace this many this early (serpentine belt, belt tensioner, etc.)

Car has an insane amount of rattles when driving down the road, which is very irritating.

General Comments:

This car is, for the most part, a waste of money.

The car does not seem to be screwed together very well.

It is pretty good in the snow, and it is reasonably safe.

All things considered, I would not buy another Explorer.

I absolutely agree with you. I have had my 2000 explorer for 4 weeks and have had the serpentine belt, tensioner, pulley (twice) changed and still this vehicle makes crazy noises. Is it true this is why they call it the Ford Explosion? Lemon for sure.

2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 V6 EFI

Summary:

Even though this car is okay, it is still a never ending money pit

Faults:

Due to slipping gears, I replaced the transmission at only 40,000 miles.

Car has a tremendous number of rattles while driving, does not seem to be screwed together very well.

General Comments:

This car seems to be a never-ending money pit. After having the vehicle for only a year and a half, I am growing extremely tired of putting money into this vehicle. Even though I purchased this vehicle used, I did not expect that it would be this unreliable. The Explorer drives reasonably well for the most par, all things considered. Nevertheless, I do not think that I will purchase another Explorer or another vehicle from Ford.
