1979 Ford F150 Custom 302 on propane

Summary:

Great truck that's impossible to kill

Faults:

Water pump replaced at 170000 kms.

Reverse lights no longer work

Rusting bad behind rear wheels

Constant antifreeze leak around one of the water pump bolts.

Heater sliding control for defrost and foot heat is busted.

General Comments:

This is a great truck. It runs on propane so it runs so quiet and clean. You can barely notice it running when it's idling.

Replaced the transmission fluid for the first time last summer. Solid transmission and engine!

Only complaints is I wish I had a posi-rear end. It gets stuck so easily in the winter.

1979 Ford F150 4x4 351 modified

Summary:

One of the best trucks ever made

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this pickup that is not routine maintenance considering it's age. I have replaced the clutch, drive shaft, timing chain, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, and of course brakes and U-joints. The paint was very faded from the sun so I had it repainted in 2000. The gauges sometimes have a mind of their own and I have replaced the original speedometer.

General Comments:

This truck was very well maintained by the previous owner and I have continued that maintenance. I change the oil every 2-3000 miles. The engine and 4 speed manual transmission are all original and have not had any work done to them. I've used the truck to pull a 19 foot travel trailer full time for the last eight years. It has never left me stranded. Before I bought it, two mechanic friends told me it was one of the best trucks ever made-they were right! The engine is starting to get a little tired now, but I've driven it 171,000 miles in the last 12 years. The thought of having to buy a different one scares me-I'll probably just keep it running as long as possible.

1979 Ford F150

Summary:

A great truck to have, if you need to carry a load

Faults:

Transmission and heater coil gave out at 73,000 miles.

Minor power steering and oil leaks since I had it.

Front gas tank's gage hasn't worked since I had it.

Water pump gave out at 70,000 miles.

General Comments:

If you're a tall man like me, this truck is for you plenty of leg room. Seats could be a little more comfortable. Overall the truck has handled good for me. If speed is what your looking for its not a fast truck, but defenitly can carry a load. My grandpa used this truck to carry around a ton every weekend to the flea market since he bought it at the dealership. The mileage is one downfall for me. It only gets around 13 miles/gal city driving and 17 miles/gal hw driving. Defenitly a most get truck.

1979 Ford F150 Ranger 400m

Summary:

Best 4 wheel drive ever built

Faults:

Grenaded rear end; replaced with Detroit Locker.

General Comments:

A very healthy big block, and a C6 tranny with a 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift. Detroit Lockers front and rear. 35" boggers.

This truck is the last of true work horse trucks. Aside from the comforts of newer trucks and better fuel consumption, there is no truck on the market that performs better. No truck built today will last longer.

Exactly what about this truck is still a 1979 Ford? My question is "Have you driven a Ford lately?"

I strongly agree with you my fellow ford brother. I HAVE A 1979 FORD F-150 4X4. I'm running a 300 straight 6 cylinder, backed up by a 4 speed manual tranny, twisting a np205 transfer case. I always wanted to run a np208 but I wanted to try out a 205 this run because of it being gear to gear. Do you have any input on this?

I have always loved these trucks, ever sence I can remember. I just bought my first one, I'm running a 351 bored 40 over, just got new heads and well that list could go on and on, but I have nothing bad to say about this truck.
