1994 Ford F150 XLT 5.0 - 302 CI

Summary:

A good basic truck with a weak transmission

Faults:

Bought it used with an exhaust leak, bad shocks, brakes and a set of worn tires. Driver's seat was flat, but overall good interior.

General Comments:

A good product that I have driven to Alaska up the Alcan twice.

The truck is smooth and very good on the freeway, but not a serious off-road truck. But, I am able to pull my boat out of most of the gravel bar rivers of the north coast.

Transmission is weakest part of the truck with the 470/WOD. I have installed a second transmission cooler with a spin on filter and a gauge and does not run cooler.

Tires, brakes and shocks last about five years each. All come due about the same time for about $1,200. Still a great truck and fun to drive.

After rebuilding the drivers seat, its a lot nicer to drive in the mountains.

1994 Ford F150 XL 4.9L inline 6

Summary:

This one is not a bad egg

Faults:

This truck as been a great truck with hardly any problems. I have owned it 3 months and when it was still under warranty from the dealer the only problem I had was a slight radiator leak.

General Comments:

This truck I would have to say is the best one I have owned yet. The in-line 6 runs great and is also great on gas (23 miles to the gallon on highway). I have had no major problems and it drives like a dream. It could use a better seat though the bench seat is not its greatest feature.

1994 Ford F150 XLT Ext Cab 5.0 L

Summary:

Best truck I think I will ever have

Faults:

Water pump needed to be replaced at 15000 miles.

Bench seat wore out quickly.

Front rim cracked.

General Comments:

The truck has a nice color from the manufacturer and has a smooth ride. But some modifications had to be made to the engine to get the full horsepower the 5.0 L has to offer.

I also wasn't happy with the rims the vehicle was equipped with, so lighter more sturdy rims were added.

The seats in the truck had worn out quickly, so then bucket seats were installed. Currently the engine has given all it can with over 200,000 miles on it, and now is being replaced with a 351 engine equipped with a super charger.

I am also thinking of adding a NOS system, but the suspension will have to be first on the list along with a new exhaust system.

1994 Ford F150 XL 4.9L 300

Summary:

A damn goodlooking workhorse!!

Faults:

Typical wear and tear from being used as a rental vehicle before I got it. Things like brake pads, brake hoses, rotor and other parts that wear out from being used and abused!

General Comments:

My 1994 Ford F-150 XL has been the best truck I have ever owned. Granted I have had to put a lot of money into getting it back into superb working condition. I have added several performance modifications. This 4.9L isn't a performance engine like the Mustang 5.0L but damn it has a lot of low end grunt for doing "REAL TRUCK WORK". I am very satisfied with it. Like any other vehicle, you take care of it, it will take care of you. Ford Chevy Dodge.
