2000 Ford F150 4.2 V6
Summary:
The best if you know how to maintain and treat a truck
Faults:
I got it at 0 miles.
At 112 000 miles the alternator went out.
At 130 000 miles the engine overheated, stopped, all it needed was a radiator flush wash, and replaced all water hose to make sure.
At 170 000 miles the alternator went out.
That has been all the cons.
However my maintenance for this truck has been full synthetic oil since 0 miles every 10 000 miles, best oil filter every oil change, air filters every like 40k.
And so far 2 big tune ups, including spark plugs, with wires, belts, 1 thermostat, and obviously brakes and tires new all the time. Don't wait till something is wrong to do tune ups.
As of today it has no problems at all, A/C is ice cold, engine and trans are perfect.
General Comments:
I have a F150 2000 4.2 V6, got it at 0 miles and now in 2009 it has 219,000. Probably there aren't many lucky F150 owners, but I think it has a lot to do with the kind of maintenance and driving you do.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I own a 1999 F150 4.2.
It has plenty of power still and does not burn oil. I just turned 267,000 miles on my truck. I put a trans in at 100,000 miles, then an alternator at 110,000. Since then I have had no trouble.
I put slick 50 in on every oil change which I go 10,000 on my changes. People think I'm silly waiting 10,000, but it works for me.
How many miles on your Ford?
