2002 Ford F250 XL 5.4 Triton
Summary:
A truck that makes the workday enjoyable
Faults:
This is my third Ford truck and the best so far. It has been totally reliable to date. Upon taking delivery of the vehicle, I noticed a coolant leak which was due to a broken hose clip on the radiator to water pump hose. This was taken care of, there and then. A dashboard buzz intrudes at certain engine speeds, the four wheel drive selection can be awkward, but, this is a work vehicle and it fills that role almost perfectly. It cruises effortlessly at the legal speed limit and very quietly too.
General Comments:
After driving my clients vehicles, stepping into my Super Duty is like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes.
These trucks will do more than the manufacturers claim and can be easily customized to your needs. I have a Class three receiver hitch fitted, fifth wheel hitch, electric brake controller, rear air suspension and a camper shell for the rainy season!
Servicing costs are reasonable if one shops around. Genuine filters are available for under $3! I do my own servicing which is easy on this vehicle. There is plenty of ground clearance to crawl underneath for changing the oil.
I hope that Ford keep the solid beam axle up front on future models and also keep the leaf spring suspension... simple and strong.
I would also like the bench seat in vinyl. The cloth seat is harder to keep clean and dry. Electric windows would be a nice addition to the XL package too. Other than these points, it's just fine.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I agree with the ratings on this truck. Looks good, but acts bad when old. Gone through 2 transmissions so far with 21,000 miles on it. Shift points are off when towing under recommended weight.
