2003 Ford F250 HD Lariat 6.0L Powermax diesel
Summary:
High performance towing machine
Faults:
Nothing has gone wrong so far. Too new to have anything break. So far I am pleased with the construction - no flaws.
General Comments:
This is the absolute best truck I have ever owned. I bought it to tow a 9,000 lb. camper. It will do that and more. This truck is very comfortable, great looking, and powerful. Fair to poor gas (diesel fuel) mileage is about to be expected, but I didn't buy it to get 35 miles to the gallon.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

My 2033 F-250 Lar has transmission problems. Shifts from 4th to low gear and locks up the truck transmission. Slow take off due to the booster. Work done on transmission, sensors, MAP control, brain module, etc. In shop for the 4th time and has only 4,232 miles on the truck. Locked up at 65 MPH the first time and at 55 MPH the second time. Numerous tries to repair! Anyone else suffering these problems?

There have been several instances where a drop in mileage and performance on the Ford diesels was due to a PCM chip malfunction. I bought a low mileage F-250 that was a company buy-back for that reason. They changed out the chip and no problems since. Also, there are after-market chips that will increase mileage and power output.

I felt the same about my F250 diesel until 3400 miles, then mileage dropped from 16.9 to 12 - 13.5. I started dieing on the road, bucking at times, missing and etc. From 3400 mile to 8300 miles was in the shop 8 times and twice with flight recorders. The heavy bucking has now stopped, but I feel the engine missing while going down the interstate from time to time. And mileage is still around 13 mpg with no load. Now the vehicle is in the 9th time at 8600 miles. The front 4 wheel bushings are squealing as I drive and now they are being replaced. In addition the water sensor is defective and giving false signals. Maybe I got a lemon... but Ford Motor is hard to work with and I am close to filling a lemon law on the vehicle at only 8600 miles. Dave.
