2002 Ford F350 Lariat V8 turbo diesel

Glow plug controller failed again.

Driver leather seat cover wore prematurely. Replaced under warranty.

Front seat belt latch failed. Replaced/factory recall.

Three of four power door locks failed in power mode. Work OK in manual operation.

General Comments:

Tows a four horse goose-neck very well.

Ride is not bad for a one ton diesel.

Interior still relatively tight after 85,000 miles. No annoying rattles.

Glow plug system problems are serious in the winter.

Power door locks have the same reliability as my Mazda 626 (with 210,000 miles on it).

Still own my 2002 Ford F350 dually 7.3L, crew cab, 4x4, long bed, PTO, dual alternator, heavy duty camper package. As of 12/27/2021 I only have 136k on it. After the first 500 miles I had the full Banks kit installed with their trans command, exhaust brake and gear vendor due to ordering it with 4:10 gears. I kept full records of everything that has been done to the truck from day one. Engine oil has been changed every 3k no matter what. Transmission oil always changed early as well with zero issues. Here it is 20 years later and it still runs great. I get asked if I'd like to sell it quite often due to the condition of the truck. Only had to replace the high pressure oil pump, brakes and hoses. Otherwise it's been the best truck I've ever owned.

2002 Ford F350 Lariat 7.3 turbo diesel

Summary:

A roomy, cargo-hauling or towing monster with tons of hidden performance

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this vehicle.

General Comments:

A superb vehicle. This is a crew cab, single rear wheel F-350 with the six-and-a-half foot bed. I changed the air filter to a K&N for improved airflow and fuel mileage. I used a Super-chips Micro-tuner to turn horsepower up from the stock 250 to over 300, and not only did the get-up-and-go improve, but fuel mileage also increased over four miles-per-gallon. I now get 21 mpg at a 75 mph with the air conditioning on - and this is a four-wheel-drive truck as well. I do not hot-rod this vehicle or abuse it, and I have not had the first problem with it.

My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that I do not find the Captain's chairs as comfortable as they could be.

2002 Ford F350 Lariat Crew cab 10 cylinder

General Comments:

It gives you the feeling that you own the road.

The acceleration in the V-10 is incredible.

The leather seats cushion the stiff ride.

Three people will fit very comfortably in the back (including a 6'6" man).

Gas mileage remained steady between 11-13mpg.

On more than one occasion I was loaded up with 5,000lbs of stone and brick. Performance never lacked.

Finally someone who is giving credit to the V10. The V10 is often overlooked because they believe that it will get horrible gas mileage. The V10 will only get about 1-2 MPG less than the V8 and you have so much extra power. The diesel will get better MPG, but they also cost $5000 extra initially and the maintenance is also more with a diesel so the price MPG difference is often offset, especially with gas prices being substantially lower than diesel (on 11/16/05) by close to a dollar. People usually want the diesel because they feel that it is the only engine that will get the job done, but the V10 can do it too. Get a V10 with a 4.30 rear axle ratio and it will be able to pull anything the diesel can, and if you REALLY need extra power, LET THAT MOTOR REV. It will pull.

Including a 6'6" man? My dad has an '02 F350 Crew Cab, and I'm a little cramped in the back (I'm 6'7").
