2002 Ford Focus SE

Summary:

Great dependability and affordable!

Faults:

The most recent (and one of the only) problem is that the back passenger window falls down! When my brother-in-law looked at it he said it was the regulator or something like that. I heard it was around $200 to fix and me being a college student, I had to find a way around it. So there is a wooden stick holding the window up from the inside. It works great if you don't open and close that door too often!

There is a rattling noise on the dash. I can't figure out where it's coming from. It's annoying, but harmless.

The fuse to the lighter thing went out. So I can't plug in any adapters/chargers. I could probably inexpensively get this fixed, but I'm not going to bother with it.

General Comments:

This car makes awesome U-Turns! I park my car along the curb of my house and have to turn around everyday. It flawlessly makes the U-Turn. If I am in my dad's car (a luxurious 2002 Mazda 626 that he's paying WAY too much for) I have to back it up a million times.

I can go about 250 miles before filling up again and it takes on average 20.00. (well used to... not anymore because of the HIGH gas prices!)

For the price I paid for it (7,900 I think) this car cannot be beat!

2002 Ford Focus SVT 2.0

Summary:

A lot of bang for the buck

Faults:

On 2 separate occasions I've had complete loss of coolant. I had the cooling system pressure tested at 2 different Ford dealerships and the tests showed absolutely no leaks. This one still remains a mystery. I had the ECU updated by Ford which solved a known engine hesitation problem at around 40 mph. The car does have some rattle noise. My bald head has worn some of the leather off headrest.

General Comments:

Despite the negatives this car is never boring to drive. It has a lot of bang for the buck. Very comfortable and roomy inside. Fantastic handling, breaking, and performance. The car has a power-band that reminds of riding a 2 stroke dirt-bike, step on the gas and the powerband kicks in. I commute about 70 miles a day in this car and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very affordable fun to drive sport compact.

2002 Ford Focus ZX3 2.0

Summary:

A car that you could lose somebody in

Faults:

The brakes have worn out twice due to my job as a paper carrier and how I drive the car, door sealer is torn on passenger side from locking my keys in the car and AAA opening it.

General Comments:

This car is amazing it hasn't died yet I routinely go near 100mph I put 3000 super hard miles on it. I completely flooded the engine going 40mph. I've gotten the car airborne a few times. The only real fault is that the engines real power kicks in at about 3000rpms, but find a road that is hilly and has sharpe curves and take it at about 15 over the speed limit and the car doesn't make a noise except it has a little, but slightly noticeable body roll, but I discovered that on a curvy road going 80 in a 30. A true rally car that only shows what its made of on a race track and not on the strip. Cruises well. If you even what more thrills get the SVT version at your local used car lot because Ford doesn't make it anymore citing it "cost" to much.

This man speaks the truth.

I put 40 000 not 3000

clerical error.

The Ford Focus is quite slow.

7th Oct 2005, 22:00

The Focus has only 130 hp. Weak handling.

Wow, sounds almost like you want to destroy it...

2002 Ford Focus ZX 3 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

Domestic rice burner

Faults:

Rubber door seal on passenger side is torn to that air comes in to the car while driving.

Transmission shudder when coming to a stop.

Gas mileage is horrible for this small of car.

General Comments:

This car has impressed me so far and it seems that people either love it or hate it.

This car takes corners like nothing else; however, it is pretty slow compared to my prior car (1987 integra)

I don't like that the seats do not fully recline. I drive a lot and I pull over to take naps and it's hard to do sitting half way up.

The stereo is impressive for being stock.

I like the looks of the car and it's well designed inside.

Rice Burner??? you are joking right, most import cars have reliability that the focus could only dream about. The only thing the Focus is burning is money out of your wallet for unnecessary repairs and failures.

I bought my 2002 Ford Focus in December of 2005. As I drove my car home from the car dealer I could watch my gas gauge go down. I told them about it, at first they kept putting me off then they put it on their computer and said nothing was wrong. I measured the gas mileage for in and out of town use I get 18 to 20 miles to the gallon. The reason I bought this car was because the salesman said, I'd get 35 miles to a gallon of gas. Now my warranty is gone and my problem isn't resolved. I feel as though I was cheated and there isn't nothing I can do about it.

Focus (2.0 zetec engine) gets 25 city /34 hwy in a manual and 24 city /32 hwy in an automatic transmission. Most get under the estimated fuel economy, but people found driving conservatively, checking tire pressure, and using cruise control more saved lots of gas. Driving more on the highway also help a lot too.

I don't believe it. I drive a ZX2 with a Zetec and I ride her hard. 4-5500rpm isn't unheard of and I get about 30mpg city. riding that hard. I know the Focus is heavy, but it can't take away 5mpg.
