General Comments:
I am averaging about 28mpg with about a forth of those miles being in heavy city traffic. Not bad at all for a V-6 and an automatic four door roomy car with a huge trunk.
My only complaint is that I am disappointed that Ford does not offer the keypad combination entry keypad on the driver’s door at any cost on this car. I love this “life saving” option as my mother has it on her 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis and we lock the keys up in the car all the time, hidden, like when at ball games, the lake, hiking, or when we play super hard with the kids at parks and the city pool. When we pick the car up from being serviced, the next day before the shop opens, we just have them lock the keys up in the car under the visor. This keypad should be on all cars. I bought the top of the line Fusion and in all the excitement of buying the car, I didn’t even realize that the car didn’t offer this option until I had already signed for the car and got it home.
I tell you this key pad is super had to live without, even if your going out to check the mail and you then remembered that you need to get something out of the car, you don’t have to go back in the house and get the key, you just type in your code. You can send the kids to the car to get something out of it while at school functions with out having to trust them with not loosing the keys.
Anyway, I don’t want to sound like I work for Ford, because I don’t, but once you have relied on such a safety and convince option such at this, you will never want a car that does not have it.
My Impala was a company issued car and I had no choice in that matter, I gave up the company car to receive an additional $500 a month in salary.
Anyway if you want a solid car I can recommend the Fusion as mine has 22,000 miles on it and it still runs and drives like brand new. I think that Ford does have a winner with the Fusion. If you buy one, get the red color, but I can’t believe that ABS doesn’t come standard. ABS was like a $500 option.
Anyway the are great cars with plenty of power and good mpg.

Maybe you didn't break in the engine right. And now it won't get good gas mileage because the engine isn't worn in the way it should be.
