1982 Ford Mustang GT Hatchback 5.0 HO

Summary:

Unusually well-kept performance car

Faults:

Nothing to date.

General Comments:

Car was garage-kept and rarely driven (30,300 miles.)

Second owner bought it in 1985. I am third.

No visible body or frame defects. Passenger door appears to have been re-painted (slight color mismatch). Car is rust-free except for normal exhaust rust.

Interior is like new! No signs of wear on seats, rugs, door panels, or dash.

Has air conditioning, manual windows, rear (trunk) privacy shade.

Hatch pistons are new.

Needs rear shocks and will need exhaust parts soon.

Engine is generally clean with minor oil-caking at rear and underside.

Gasoline smell is noticeable in the garage, but may be normal for a carbureted engine (been awhile since I had a non-fuel-injected, computer-controlled engine.)

Very fun to drive!

1982 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 302HO

Summary:

Very fun car, although hard to find in nice shape

Faults:

The starter needed replacing. Also had to replace clutch and flywheel.

Body needs some serious TLC, paint is fading and wearing away.

Front bumper is broken.

Seats are in poor condition.

Various badges fell off of the car.

Car was neglected over the years and the interior shows this.

On cold days, 2nd gear usually grinds on the shift.

Car needs alignment.

General Comments:

From the factory, power is a little lacking although it was the fastest US production car in 1982. You can really wake the engine up with a bigger carb and some high compression pistons.

The car is very light, about 3,000 pounds depending on options (or lack thereof)

Car is a blast to drive and can get up and go with no problem.

Car was neglected, so it has several problems, but most are visual.

The shifter is in a natural position, and the seats are quite comfortable.

Wasn't the covette the fastest us product made in 1982.

Hrm.. not sure on the vette. Wikipedia claims the vette only made something near 200 hp in that era.. Given, that's probably more than the stang made... Vette's probably weighed a ton more though too...

1982 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 High Output

Summary:

Great Ride

Faults:

The radiator blew on me at 132,000 miles.

The pin in the clutch fell out twice and it took a couple of hours to fix.

The seat stitches were starting to come out when I sold her.

It was always tricky starting the car.

General Comments:

When you did start the car though, it was really fun. I really regret that I sold her because it was fun to just cruise in this car. I took the car to the track with a bone stock engine and she ran seventeen seconds. With the right upgrades, this car could be the king of the road.

1982 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 High Output

Summary:

A quick car you could get for $1500 or less

Faults:

The rear-main seal went out (not suprising for a 302), and it was bad since we bought the car.

The interior color faded from red to pink. It was mostly garaged too.

Distributor cap also went bad at 100 miles, but we got reimbursed by Ford after three months.

General Comments:

It's quick, and it puts your head in your seat if it's not there already.

It's the first year of the late-model GT, so it will be a classic soon.

It handles great, and it brakes as fast as it accelerates (the brakes will last 1 1/2 years on hard driving).

Everything has stayed together (except for the rear main). It has 168727 miles on it and it still purrs. So there were some initial flaws, but it's all done and running great.
