1984 Ford Mustang LX Hatchback 3.8
Summary:
Good 1st car and daily driver
Faults:
Doors leak a little bit.
Replaced non-functioning gas lifts for hatchback when I got it.
Suspension is awful, I have to replace it.
Burns fuel like nothing else out there; ~5MPG city. Improves a lot on the highway, and when I don't gun it too often.
Takes a long time to warm up, around 15 minutes of driving.
General Comments:
Damn decent car. The hatchback provides loads of room; without putting the back seats down, I managed to squeeze two 5x7"s, four 6x9"s, two 10" subs, and an amp in the back.
When I took out the stereo and flipped down the back seats, I fit three single mattresses in there (with the hatchback open). There's a huge flat area on which to put stuff. One short person could sleep comfortably.
A cheap car, but it burns way too much fuel, even after a $450 tune.
I put in NGK plugs and Alpine ignition electronics (silicon-carbon cables, hand-made in Canada) and it starts right away, every time. (I got a good deal.)
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Seriously, I think you are exaggerating the MPG a tad. If you aren't, get it in and get it tuned. Even back when they were made in 84, they didn't get that bad of gas mileage. I do know that the gas made now has additives and burns cleaner, but it doesn't affect your gas mileage that bad. I think you need to keep your foot out of it and give it a proper tune up. Sounds like general maintainence to me. Oh yeah, cool job you putting a system in, I never got around to doing it on mine.

How are you getting 5MPG's??
