I've owned it since new and it's a fun car of decent quality, and it's a keeper
Needed a new clutch, Needed a new fuel pump, Rattles and squeaks.
Lot's of fun. Powerful, great rumbling sound, smooth transmission, decent handling.

Reliable Mustang for the Money
Leaking transmission fluid, replaced the gasket.
Rear Brake seal broke, got that replaced.
Muffler needed to be replaced, got that replaced, but I guess that is part of "wear and tear"
Power door lock will only lock the passenger door, but not the driver's side.
No cup holder.
No tilt wheel.
Key can be taken out of the ignition even when the gear is in D. *dangerous... I guess Ford didn't invent the lock until later, it didn't start the next day I bought it, got some friends working on it, no luck and we were going to push it into friend's yard, that's when the problem was discovered, I left the gear in D. DUH*
Air conditioner didn't work, never bother to get that fixed.
Radio was cut off, never bother to get that fixed.
Dome light comes on and off at random times, it was from the trunk.
Faded headlights *I see that on lots of older Ford's*
Other than the problems above, I loved my Mustang. It was my FIRST car and I'll never forget it. I got it for only $1,995.
I drove it to Washington, DC from Arkansas and back with no problems. Never break down on me.
Hatchback, easy to put huge things through the trunk into the rear seat, like a college sized refrigerator.
Quite fast for a 4 cylinder engine. A car was next to me was revving and my friend was like you're not going to beat him. I was like watch me. As soon as the light turned green, I zoomed, and he missed his exit. Haha. 11 years old car doesn't mean it can't do any good. It CAN!!! :-)
I miss that car and I would buy one again if I find a 88 Mustang that is well taken care of without any stupid modifications! But with 5 speed!

Teenagers can't handle a 12 sec car!
The passenger window stopped working.
The Driver side seat belt buckle stopped latching (dangerous)
Crashed due to poor suspension handling.
My Mustang had a souped up engine, and pumped 350 HP and 350 ft lbs of torque, which is quite a bit over the stock 225/300.
0-60 in 4.0 seconds flat.
Quarter mile in 12.6 seconds at 109 MPH.
The cars suspension was not designed for this much horsepower, and was very squirrley. Trackion control would have been a dream.
This muscle car would win any race whether up against a corvette (my favorite to beat) or the silly import cars that kids like to drive.
There's no feeling like the "throw you in the back of your seat" torque feeling you get when you drive a true mustang.
The 5.0 mustangs have a lot of potential and I highly recommend this car to fix up. There are lots of bolt on parts available to make this car go faster.
Dyno tuning if available adds more horsepower for the money than any upgrade you will do.

Correct, the 1987 Ford Mustang GT has 300 foot lbs of torque stock. I noticed the 1st entry on this page titled "Teenagers can't handle a 12 sec car!" claiming the 1987 Ford Mustang GT stock has only 225 pounds of torque, therefore this comment should be have not been overlooked by the staff here at (carsurvey.org) and should have never been allowed to be posted, just like this one.

The 1987 mustang gt was rated with 225 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Not the 225 stated in the review. The torque output of the mustangs of the late 80's was probably the biggest reason why they were so fast compared to other sports cars of that time.
