1991 Ford Mustang LX Hatchback 2.3L I4

Summary:

Great first car

Faults:

The brakes wore down fast and put a bad gouge in the rotor.

Air cylinders wouldn't hold up the trunk.

Clock stopped working.

General Comments:

This car is great.

This was my first car, and I don't know if I will ever get anything, but another mustang.

I'm 6'3", and I fit more comfortably in it than our Explorer or our Silverado.

It completely dominates all my friends 4 bangers.

Handles like a dream, I took corners at 110MPH when the turns were warning to go 45MPH.

Even though it's a 4 cylinder, I can smoke the tires, whip shitties, and do anything my friend can do in his sV8.

1991 Ford Mustang LX 2.3 I 4

Summary:

A nice running vehicle

Faults:

Corrosion on the positive battery cable causing the car not to start.

General Comments:

This car is quick and fun. The seats are comfortable and the car handles excellent. But if you want a hot rod 91' Mustang get a 5.0L. It is not a car for tall people.

1991 Ford Mustang LX 4 cylinder

Summary:

Sometimes good, other times terrible!

Faults:

Transmission died.

I had to replace the modulator.

Some wires weren't made long enough and therefore were too tight across the alternator and caused a minor fire.

I've had lots of problems with the charging system. Often the car just doesn't start for no apparent reason.

General Comments:

Handles excellent.

Very comfortable.

It's a good car when it runs well, however I've had too many problems with it lately. It doesn't go 4 weeks without having to be taken into the shop.

General Comments:

The car is a beast in all sense of the word. The idiot for a previous owner did quite a bit of work to the car, but hacked it all together, subsequently damaging parts all over the place, improperly reconnecting things, and just generally breaking things. Several weeks and $1600 later, it runs like a dream. Although the car had so much wrong with it before it got fixed, it ran extremely strong nonetheless. This is an automatic keep in mind, but it had enough power to EASILY and casually roast the 245 50 16 Z-rated meats in the back all the way through first gear. It breathes extremely well and does not even begin to feel out of breath even when it reaches rpms well above the safe operating range... I know, I had it up to 6500 rpms once. The car, after the repairs, has proven to have even more power and massive torque. Current modifications include an aftermarket Cobra intake upper and lower, headers, an X pipe, dual Flowmasters, and a 4.10 POSI rear end, all of which are fairly entry-level modifications for the strip enthusiast. The stock automatic transmission is a slushbox, and in my opinion, one of the worst transmissions ever made. Nevertheless, it always shifts when it needs to and, oddly enough, PREFERS to be shifted under moderate to heavy throttle.. light throttle or zero throttle shifts are horrendous with a dull thud and shudder.

The car has extremely stiff new shocks installed and grippy tires, and actually seems to handle better than my V6 Camaro did, which was surprising to me. The ride is irritatingly rough at times, but it pays off when you cut a hard corner with ease... just don't jump back on the pedal... and if you do, expect to be quickly going in the direction you came in a cloud of smoke.

Overall, the car so far has proven to be an excellent bargain, even with all the repairs. If you want performance, you've gotta pay for it. And that includes in gas.
