Faults:

There was a recall involving a problem with the cruise control. Otherwise, the only mechanical part replaced was the belts, after normal wear and tear.

The only disappointing factor is that the red paint seems to be fading over time. It has not been garaged.

General Comments:

This car is quick, responsive, and totally fun to drive. The sound system is still great, and seats still look new. The car still has the solid, tight feel of a brand new car. However, it's been well-maintained. It has never quit me. I bought the extended warranty, but never used it one time, nor did I use the complimentary year of roadside assistance.

Faults:

Only minor things like a drive belt, and the passenger window not rolling up correctly. Nothing that ever left me stranded.

General Comments:

Most reliable car I have ever owned, and I have owned a Honda. No serious problems in 95,500 miles! I drive it daily and I drive it hard. Still idles silently, sounds better than new with a new Flowmaster exhaust!

Great fun to customize. I have added fog lights, new wheels & tires, cold air intake, Flowmaster exhaust, blue/white instruments, painted interior panels red, installed chrome controls, and more.. it's awesome! Take good care of it and it will last forever.

HOWEVER.. only 150 horsepower with the automatic is almost painfully slow. Looks awesome in bright red paint, but the later 1999 & up Mustangs have much more power.

Faults:

Driver side power window motor died on me.

Idle Position Sensor went out at 69,000 miles.

Belt squeaking when cold. Fixed by replacing idle tensioner pulley.

General Comments:

This car is the greatest car I have ever owned.

Take care of the maintainence and it will take care of you.

Engine power isn't anything to brag about, but it will throw you back in your seat from a stop and give you plenty of low end torque.

I added a Super-chip and it makes the transmission shift a lot smoother and gives it an extra kick.

Faults:

First off, I would like to say this is a nice car, with issues. The car was bought in Wisconsin at a local dealership, It had never seen winter, so it was in nice shape. When I bought the car, it had a crack on the hood, where the latch was. The dealership repaired the hood, free of charge, and replaced a couple of other broken parts on the car. Then I moved to Texas and, a couple of months later, I noticed that the crack had returned. So I called the local dealership and they said this was a common thing for that year Mustang, and the hood had to be replaced. The estimate was $1250. I called my Ford dealership, back in Wisconsin, and they said they would put up $250 for the bill. So, I ended up paying out of my own pocket to have it fixed.

Then I started hearing this loud clucking sound every time I drove over a bump. I looked under the car to see what it was. I discovered that the balancer at the front of the drive shaft had broken and was freely spinning on the drive shaft. When I went to the Ford dealership to get the parts, I was told this was also common in Mustangs of that year.

Like most cars with 60,000 miles, the tie rods went bad and had to be replaced.

Leather seats need to be replaced.

Needs a new Convertible top.

General Comments:

Overall, the Mustang has been a great car. It's very fun to drive and it gets looks when the top is rolled down. I finally figured out why my company offered so many different types of super chargers for this car. Because of it's lack of power, when it really counts, out on cruise night. I even tested the safety features, myself, this last February, in a near fatal (for the car, that is) collision, Everything worked as the Ford engineers intended, and I walked away unharmed. I would recommend this car to any young person looking for an attractive ride. All it needs is some engine tuning and nice rims.
