1991 Ford Probe 2 door hatchback 2.2L

Summary:

I love this car, because it looks sporty and gets great MPG too

Faults:

I have just bought this car. The only thing wrong would be that the maroonish paint has severely dulled. I think that Ford had problems with this model and their clear coat.

There haven't been any other problems so far, because the previous owner has put a salvage engine in it. I think it was a Mazda MX-6 motor; only has something like 18000 miles on it. The previous owner also had to replace many parts as well.

General Comments:

The car has pretty good acceleration for a 2.2L motor, however it is NOT a race car, and must be treated with care.

1991 Ford Probe GL 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

I love this car, it has stuck with me through thick and thin

Faults:

The transmission is going bad because the transmission coolant line first rusted then exploded.

The rack and pinion went bad, so it slips when I turn hard to the left.

General Comments:

This car has been amazing. It is one of the fastest automatics I have ever driven.

It has a very attractive look and drives well. It also handles very well.

The seats are amazingly comfortable and my car had a sunroof installed which updated the look even more.

My car is my first car and I would hate to get rid of it. It runs awesome despite all the miles the engine has on it!

1991 Ford Probe LX 3.0 V6 Vulcan

Summary:

Amazing car that fits my personality and needs perfectly

Faults:

Both headlight motors are non-functional. The first one just started to hesitate to come up before finally not coming up at all. The second one, I think, had a massive short and decided to go up and down about 250 times before I disconnected the motor.

Heater core was leaking. This was the dealership's fault though, they were supposed to replace it, and ended up not doing so. There's probably a good reason why you shouldn't take an obscure Ford to a GM dealership for servicing.

Heater only works when I floor it for a long stretch of road.

General Comments:

The Probe caught my eye among the other cars in my price range, it looked fast and it was much higher quality on the inside.

The interior, while mostly hard plastic, is incredibly ergonomic and easy to use. The seats are the most comfortable I've ever sat in.

The engine produces a lot of power for this class of car.

Substantial stock exhaust note. DOES turn heads when I blip the throttle.

The transmission makes crisp upshifts, though the downshifts slip quite a bit. I blame this on the old age of the transmission and the poor reliability of the 4EAT anyhow.

The cargo room is massive. I fit 2 gas grills in side by side, although it took a lot of coaxing.

The rear seats do not exist. I consider the back to be a "random crap shelf" at best.

Handles pretty well, but the body roll is very noticeable.

Very heavy steering, no feedback from the front wheels.

Has a tendency to idle high when I start it, but a quick blip of the throttle fixes this. My guess is the butterfly valve is sticking open too far maybe?

1991 Ford Probe GT 2.2 liter/4 cylinder

Summary:

The car is fast, the turbo actually sucks you in the seat!

Faults:

The transmission went out early, I say about 100,000 miles.

The passenger seat belt that goes across the chest, locked up.

The power steering leaks pretty bad.

General Comments:

The Probe GT is pretty quick stock, but when you get after market gear, if you can make it fit, the Probe only gets better.

However, the front windshield is quite small as far as having a lot of seeing view.
