Faults:

Windshield was cracked when I purchased the car.

Both C.V. Axles were broken at purchase.

Tires were badly worn before purchase.

There was a bad ball-joint before purchase.

There was a broken brake caliper at purchase.

The last problem was a broken tie rod arm end at purchase.

General Comments:

The previous owner did not take very good care of the car as I can tell, but after the suspension problems in the problems list were fixed it has been my favorite car to drive.

It is definitly faster than my old cars. Those cars being an 88 V.W. Jetta and a 1984 Ford Ranger v6 4x4.

This car even for having 180,000+ Miles on the original engine is still getting Fuel economy of 18MPG City and 25-30MPG Highway.

It was purchased having a Cold Air Intake and alarm system already in it.

Overall I was extremely satisfied with the car, but wish that I had known about those problems above before buying.

Faults:

No problems since car was purchased.

General Comments:

This review is for a 1991 Ford Probe LX with a Ford built 3.0 liter V6 and a Mazda built 5 speed manual transmission.

First of all, let me point out that this car is assembled in America by Mazda for Ford. A lot of people do not know that.

The Probe is approximately 50-55% Ford and 45-50% Mazda.

The Probes are twins of Mazda 626's and MX-6's.

Probe four cylinder engines including the turbo are made by Mazda.

The car is a fairly strong performer with the V6. The engine has around 140 horsepower and 171 lbs/ft torque.

Zero to sixty times are just over eight seconds which is more than enough to embarrass many other sporty cars.

Decent handling.

Decent manual transmission. Shift throws are a bit long.

Comfortable interior. Switches take some getting used to. Radio placed a little low.

Back seat room is poor for adults, but fine for kids. This is typical of cars in this class.

Annoying "Pre-Airbag" automatic shoulder belts. Although, you get used to them. Just don't forget to fasten the lap belt.

Also, these cars have pop up headlights which are becoming rare on new cars.

Unique styling and the fact that not many of the 1989-1992 Probes are still on the road make it fun to own and drive.

Also, let me point out, the lack of V6 badging and the overall similarity (except for the twin tail pipes on the muffler) to the GL makes the Probe LX an excellent sleeper car. You can definitely surprise people with it.

While not quite as fast as the turbo GT model, the V6 LX is still my top choice.

Faults:

A few things have gone wrong with my car. One, was the window button on the passenger door went dead and the other one is that the right side light is stuck in the on position from a dead motor. Other than these two things this car has been great so far.

General Comments:

Car is pretty fast. My friend got a new 40th year anniversary mustang, but my probe beat it off the line and up to the speed limit. Wish my car was manual, it would be more fun. Handling is not bad, but the turning radius is not the greatest.

Faults:

The leather wrapping on the shift knob came unstitched.

Self park for the wipers broke.

Retractable antenna motor burnt out.

General Comments:

This car has respectable handling and power, it can eat up Civics and imports any day. It's fun to drive, and it's relatively snappy for a car of its age and class.

My main complaints about the car are that the engine takes more oil than most cars, but that can be expected for cars this age and with over 120,000 KM.

The drivers side window leaks slightly, but that is due to the the last owner installing a new door panel and not doing it properly. The window is about 2 - 3 cm too low at the rear, and thus causes a slight leak and annoying whistling sound.

I had a lot of fun with this car, but I enjoy speed, and would like something a bit faster, so it's going up for sale this spring! I will be purchasing a Camaro instead (yes, I know I know going from a Ford to a Chevy is a sin, but what can I say... Camaro's are a plenty here in Montreal, and very affordable!)
