1993 Ford Probe GT 2.5 24 valve OHC

Summary:

This car is some of the best engineering I have every seen

Faults:

The brakes need some work. They fade real bad. It seems to have a leak somewhere, but I cannot seem to find it.

General Comments:

I have driven a lot of cars in my life. The Ford Probe ranks as one of the highest in my book. It is sporty, looks great, has a lot of bells and whistles and is fun and responsive.

It's Mazda engine is a big plus from a reliability standpoint and it is easy to do preventative maintenance.

If this was all, it would be enough. But there is more to this little gem than meets the eye. Today, I had a wreck in my 93 GT.

Now, before everyone gets upset, let me tell you that I was traveling about 60 miles per hour and was taking an exit on the highway when my right rear tire clipped a curb and blew out. The car spun into a concrete barrier and destroyed the front bumper cover. The left fender and right rear quarter panel were damaged, but repairable. The rear bumper cover was scraped up pretty good, too.

But the car was able to be driven away. No fluids leaked and there was no major crunch of metal. In fact, the car was completely safe to drive down the highway after I changed the tire. After a 60 MPH smack-down, I was really impressed with the ability to take the damage and get on with it.

I also just had a wreck in my 1993 Ford Probe GT the other day. Again, it was on the freeway and I rear ended the car in front of me at about 45mph. The other car's rear bumper was trashed, but my Probe only had some easily repairable dents to the front bumper cover. I was amazed that nothing in the engine was leaking or anything. I was able to drive away in it, making my love for this car even greater.

1993 Ford Probe SE Automactic

Summary:

Fast for a 4 cylinder

Faults:

When I first bought my 93 Ford Probe SE. The original air flow system was removed. Don't remove this there are sensors in it. I had to replace the transmission cause of this. Then the computer in the transmission is giving off to much pressure. I haven't fixed this yet. My other car is a 89 Ford Probe LX. Great car. Replaced fuel filter once. The transmission was slipping, but just added prolong. Now it is great. Very fast. I hope once the transmission in my 93 is fixed it has power too. Great car will buy another too.

Thank you for letting me know about my 93 ford probe air flow system, but how can I keep my car in excellent conditions when it has 150 miles at the odometer? I love my car, but some parts are to expensive!

1993 Ford Probe SE 2.0 DOHC 16v 4 cylinder

Summary:

A street car that belongs on a race track

Faults:

The drivers side power window had to be fixed, the motor powering it was short circuiting.

Interior panels have started showing wear and tear.

General Comments:

I learned how to drive in a 2001 Mustang and this car handles equally good if not better than it.

With the slight engine modifications I've done, coupled with the Probe's light weight my car holds a zero to sixty time of 6.2 seconds.

During hard cornering, which is easy to pull off in a Probe, you can really feel the front wheels pulling you through.

I just bought a 1993 Ford Probe SE, and it's the best car I've owned. The only problem I have is finding new parts. I would like to know where to obtain new parts. The Ford Probe is a street car that has pull to it.

1993 Ford Probe GT 2.5

Summary:

Fast, affordable sports car

Faults:

Three of the six spark plug hollows were filled with oil. This started to short the plugs and destroy the plug wires. I needed to replace both head gaskets at 80,000 miles.

I have had to replace both oxygen sensors two different times. They seem to last around 70,000 miles.

I replaced a sticking parking brake cable around 120,000 miles.

I replaced the water pump around 120,000 miles.

I replaced the a/c compressor at 145,000 miles.

The hydraulic arms for the rear hatch are worthless. I have replaced them two different times. I think the hatch is too heavy for that size.

I replaced the ignition coil and cam sensor at 130,000 miles.

Door panels started to break loose at around 75,000 miles.

I have replaced both belts twice.

I have replaced the brake pads twice. I replaced the rotors once.

General Comments:

This is a very fast, stock v-6. It can outperform most cars out there. I have had it at 135 mph+. I've driven it at speeds of 100 mph+ for extended periods of time with no problems. This car was built for speed and cornering.

I have used premium fuel and Mobil 1 synthetic oil throughout the life of the car. It has performed very well for me.
