1993 Ford Probe GT 2.5

Summary:

Fast and furious

Faults:

I have had to replace a timing belt and 2 new inner tire rods.

General Comments:

I love my probe gt. it is the fastest car I ever owned.

Even though it is a automatic it will not burn the tires taking off, but when it shifts it lights them up.

1993 Ford Probe GT 2.5L V6

Summary:

Fast and great handling and a decent price

Faults:

I only paid $400 for this car. The car had 1 seized brake caliper (left rear) and the rotors were completely worn out when I bought it, just due to lack of maintainence, brake shop told me all 4 were bad and said it would cost over $800 to fix, so I did all of the work myself and replaced all 4 calipers, rotors and pads for less than $400.

Battery dies if the car sits for more than a week and I can't figure out why, I would really like some help on this if anyone knows anything about it.

Serpentine belt squeals, probably just need a new one.

Really loud tensioner bearings.

Bad Mass Air Flow sensor so it revs to about 1500 then drops back down to 800 once it's up to temp at idle, still drives good though.

Misses at idle, because of old plugs and wires, just a maintainance issue...

Keep in mind this car has over 175,000 miles on it and the previous owner took horrible care of it, I highly doubt ANYTHING on this car has been replaced other than plugs and wires.

General Comments:

Stay away from any Probe with an automatic, they are worthless!

This car is extremely fast, out accelerates almost everthing on the road.

Great handling.

This car is mechanically identical to an MX-6 LS, which also has the V6.

Great drivability other than the fact that is spins about 4500rpm to go 80mph on the highway, still gets great gas mileage, and I'm 17 so I drive like an idiot.

You can get mods for these things everywhere! The performance market for Probes is huge. I have a 3 inch racing exhaust on mine and I love it, super loud when on the gas, and added quite a bit of acceleration.

If you can find a GT in good condition, buy it. I love mine and I have a lot of minor problems, but that's just due to previous owner's ignorance. I drive around 100miles a day and have no problems with drivability or anything else. This is a great car especially if well taken care of.

Truly a manufacturing marvel! I never thought that for $1600.00 I could get a car that runs awesome, handles insanely good(like 35mph corners at almost 100mph), its pretty fast, and the ladies love the look. Considering the 0-60 is 7.5 seconds, the quarter about 15.2 seconds, and top speed a little over 140mph! Thats by far the best $1600.00 i have ever spent.

Probes are the biggest pieces of crap I have ever seen. Buy a Honda that is your best bet, because probes tend to brake down a lot, and they ain't very fast. If you are looking to find something that you will put a little bit of money and get a lot out of it BUY A HONDA. Best you will ever do.

I have a '93 Probe GT and I love it. I only paid $300 for the car and it didn't run, but a new distributor solved the problem.

It is fairly fast, but mine won't climb hills in 3rd 4th or 5th gear, so I have to downshift to 2nd for some reason. All good though, best money I have ever spent.

1993 Ford Probe SE not sure

Summary:

Overall, I love my Probe!!!

Faults:

The transmission has went out in the car, but I read somewhere that it was expected to go out around 100,000 miles. Rebuilt the transmission and it runs great now. Anytime one of the seats even gets wet with water, it stains. I have replaced both CV joints. The clear coat on the paint has worn off. That's about it.

General Comments:

The car handles great.

The back seat has no leg room.

The car looks great with the modifications you can do for it.
