We have just had to give it a tune up and nothing else.

General Comments:

This little truck is very strong and sturdy for its size. It has a great sound system and the most comfortable cabin ever.

The truck has intense power and has great handling and a smooth ride. I recommend this truck as a must have for everyone.

Faults:

The clutch is going to go any day.

Rust, rust, rust.

Paint has peeled; previous owner repaired a side with spray paint.

Tailgate is stuck in the up position.

General Comments:

The early 90s were just a good time for Ford trucks. I've driven F-150s, F-250s and Rangers from this era and they are all highly reliable. This truck is no exception.

It's as ugly as sin, and doesn't handle terribly well. The four-cylinder gets decent gas mileage (20-21 MPG) but has a hard time keeping up at high speeds. I get really nervous taking this car anywhere past 75 MPH, especially in inclement weather.

This car is not comfortable. The base model has a bench seat and standard cab, and there's not a lot of room. The bench seat gets uncomfortable on long freeway drives, which I make in it regularly. There's no power steering or cruise control, making freeway driving an involved experience.

However, despite its flaws, it starts every single morning. The engine is pretty indestructible, and other than the clutch and body issues it has given me no problems. I expect it to run to 200,000 miles.

Faults:

Rear end pinion bearing at 34000 miles (under warranty).

Starter at around 200000 miles.

Slight seep of water in heavy rain around the windshield at around 250000 miles.

Power door locks. Driver's side would not work on for the passenger side.

Throttle positioner at around 220000 miles.

Front end work at about 280000 miles. Tie rod, steering box and drag link.

Note: The tires were changed from 205 to 215s at around 150000 miles. So it's probably actually done more than 338000 miles.

General Comments:

Best vehicle I've ever had! Was going to buy a Toyota brand new with a 3.0. Dealer would not negotiate what I felt was a fair price.

Purchased the Ranger used with 9000 miles, and have never looked back. At work everybody can't believe it when I tell them how many miles I had on it. I told everybody that I worked with I was going to drive it to 500000 miles.

Comfortable even on long rides.

All the power you needed.

Even at 338000 miles, it cruised at 75mph all day long. Never had to kick down in gear, even on the grades.

Would still be driving it if another vehicle wouldn't have pulled out in front of me. The truck was totaled. Never made it to 500000, but I have no doubt that it would have.

Faults:

Had surface rust on the bottom when we first got it. This has since been removed.

Battery is not the best, but it is not the stock battery.

General Comments:

My dad was in the market for a truck back in 2004. He looked at all the brands, and we got our '91 Ford Ranger XLT Long Bed, with a 2.9L V6, and a 5-speed manual tranny.

This truck is great, especially for its age and mileage. Perfect for yard work, or as a daily driver. Gets okay gas mileage. Performance is alright - it's no Mustang GT, but it moves. Also, I learned how to drive manual on it. Very tough little truck, definitely built Ford tough. Definitely recommended if you're in the market for a pickup. There's a reason Ford continues to dominate the truck market.
