Faults:

This truck is great!

With 140721 miles, the only thing I have replaced is the Radiator.

I can tell now that I need to change the shocks. Feeling all the bumps already.

A/C still not working.

Wipe turns on by itself.

Seems like some kind of circuit board problem.

General Comments:

This 4X2 is an awsome truck.

My dad told me not to get a Ford because they don't last as long as the imports.

Boy! was he wrong.

4 years into my truck, only replaced the brakes twice myself; had the radiator replace by my best Mechanic.

Total cost in repairs from Dec99-currentDec03 $353.43.

What do you guys think of that?

Gas is awsome; I ride this truck 72 miles each day, 6 days a week. Range on it is about 333 miles for one full tank. Again just thinking about these numbers makes me happy.

I haven't fixed my A/C on it because I really don't use it that much. Even during the summer when highs were about 90degrees, I was still fine with the windows down.

Guess what I change my oil every 7000 miles not 3000.

I would recommend this truck to anyone.

Faults:

At 28500 the window on the drivers side wouldn't go back up unless I hit the side of the door. Finally had the problem fixed. Works great now. The other problem my truck has is not starting when it is hot. It will turn over and die out right away. The dealer mechanics can find nothing wrong with the truck. Other mechanics can find no reason why my truck does this. I would not buy another ford truck. I didn't buy the truck new so I expected to come across some problems. But to encounter a problem that not one single mechanic knows what is wrong with is bad news. It seems like it might be the fuel pump, but again no one really knows. For this very reason the Ford Ranger XLT is a disgrace to the Ford family of vehicles.

General Comments:

The inside of the vehicle is very comfortable.

I like the extra cab for putting groceries there, etc.

Handles the KY roads very well. (lots of curves)

Faults:

At 67,000 miles the transmission went. Had it rebuilt and 5,000 miles later it has developed a leak. Transmission work is not cheap on these trucks and leaks seem common.

The camber casting bushings and outer radius insulators have been replaced. Also a common thing on these trucks.

The dome light will not turn off, so I pulled the fuse.

A small leak has developed in the rear sliding window.

I have also done minor things such as battery, tune up, and brakes, but this is common with any vehicle.

General Comments:

I am glad to have the 3.0 which seems to have good power.

Most of the mileage has been long trips (200-300 miles nonstop) and it has been very dependable. The seats are a bit uncomfortable on long journeys though.

Faults:

I removed the bulb in the dome light at around 70,000 miles because it wouldn't shut off.

The heater control valve had to be replaced at approximately 75,000 miles.

The alternator was replaced last spring.

The timing belt broke at 175,000 miles, but I admit it was my fault for never having changed it.

The oxygen sensor and EGR valve are both currently scheduled for replacement.

General Comments:

My previous Ranger was returned under FL lemon law statutes, so it took quite a bit of convincing to get me into another one. This truck has been extremely reliable, and will probably be the best quality vehicle I will ever own in this price range.
