2001 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0

Summary:

Good reliable transportation

Faults:

There seems to be a lot of electrical issues. The "door ajar" light comes on often even when I open a close the doors several times.

I also have no lighted buttons on my steering wheel.

General Comments:

It is a very solid vehicle.

Very well thought out and very user friendly.

I don't see why in this day & age they can't get better gas mileage.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4X4 SuperCab 4.0

Summary:

This is a "warranty vehicle" which will be gone within 3 years or 36,000 miles .

Faults:

Timing chain tensioner replaced under a technical service bulletin, due to a timing chain "rattle."

An exhaust gas recirculation component was replaced, as a result of the check engine light.

General Comments:

Terrible quality and "quirks" throughout:

1. There are myriad rattles creaks and groans.

2. There are a slew of electrical problems.

A) The CD play stopped once or twice.

B) The power door lock unlocked by itself while driving.

C) The clock display occasionally lights up momentarily when the key is removed.

D) The instrument panel lights dimmed (once or twice) all by themselves.

E) The radio runs so hot it is almost too hot to touch on long trips. Ditto with the instrument cluster lights.

3. The "cold" air setting bleeds warm air.

4. There is a delay of engagement when "D" or "R" is selected.

The power output of the 4.0 engine is adequate, nothing more.

Clunk or bump in drive line on light acceleration.

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 SOHC V6

Summary:

This is a bargain for the buck

Faults:

Check engine light on at 10,000 MI. Dealer had to move throttle cable because it was making rattling noises inside the cab. Headlamps fogged up at about 1,000 MI and were replaced at warranty cost. Currently I have problems with the fog lamps and headlamps. When I first turn them on I have to check if they are on because sometimes they aren't. If they aren't I will wiggle the socket and all of a sudden they will pop on. Dealer will not replace because they are to lazy to do it or the fact that the harness is $2,500. Replaced brakes at 30,000 MI. Drive-line makes a lot of noise. Transmission slips sometimes. Otherwise not too many problems.

General Comments:

Nice looking truck. I have white super-cab 4-door 4X4. She is fast for her class of truck. Took here to the strip recently and she ran a 16.0 flat. Motor-trend said 16.6. Took her off road last winter and she was amazing. I didn't get stuck at all. I hear that the 2002 model has a few quirks worked out of it from 2001. All in all this is a nice truck and I will always buy a ford any day of the week.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 4.0 V6

Faults:

My check engine light came on at 10,000.They said it was the fuel sensor and replaced it under warranty. Plus washed it, cool!

General Comments:

This truck is fast!!

I've read the other comments about how it's fast, but...

I've only had one other truck ever take me in town (just for fun between lights) and I can't remember what make it was, but it was really close.

This thing can hang or out run any truck in it's class and some full size trucks!

The 4x4 is awesome, I've been in some real hairy places and came right out.

The look is tough and demands respect from all trucks except maybe the dodge ram (looks only)!

I have the washable interior, and I love it the floor is rubber mat which doesn't move like a floor mat and the seats are stylish yet washable.

All in all it's a great truck for the money too bad they'll probably stop making them in about another year or two.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0 V6

Summary:

A good looking reliable truck at an affordable price

Faults:

Nothing serious has gone wrong with this truck at all. The coat hook came from the factory without being bolted in and the dealer fixed it. The only thing I can think off is it seems to always have the steering wheel cocked to the left when I am driving straight. The dealership gave me a free alignment, but didn't really do anything.

General Comments:

This has been an all around great truck so far. It has decent power once you get into the upper RPM's and its easy to do with the five speed. I test drove this motor with the automatic five speed and it was slow and gutless.
