2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0 SOHC

Summary:

Awesome truck

Faults:

One problem is the "Door Ajar" light comes on sometimes for no reason and the dome light will stay on until it corrects itself, haven't had this checked yet.

General Comments:

I love this truck.

Has excellent acceleration.

Has so much more power then I had expected to get out of this truck. The new 4.0l is great.

For some people the ride might be a little rough, but it seems like a very nice ride as long as I don't hit any bumps going very fast then you can really feel it.

I had the door ajar problem too. Spray a good amount of WD40 in the door latch. That fixed it for me!

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0L

Summary:

This truck is capable yet uncomfortable.

Faults:

The differential pressure feedback sensor, DPFE, went bad. Vibrations come through the steering wheel.

General Comments:

The Ford Ranger is a capable off road vehicle. It has more than enough power and chassis strength for towing, rock crawling or other utilitarian uses.

The draw back to this is it makes for an uncomfortable daily driver car. It is best suited for a winter or work vehicle.

It is best not to drive this truck everyday seeing as how it gets absolutely terrible gas millage. Even with a 4.0L.

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 V6

Summary:

Great truck, a little under powered though

Faults:

One problem is that the light for the airbag comes on now and then. When I brought it to the dealership, they said there was no problem and I was charged $50.00 just to hook the truck to the computer.

The driver side door has a constant squeak in it though. Just enough to drive me crazy.

General Comments:

I love this Ford Ranger, I just think it is completely under powered. I mainly stick to city driving which is not too bad, but when I do have to go on the interstate, it is a nightmare. The pick up is so incredibly slow that I have to punch the gas to make 70 miles per hour, which really killed gas.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0 V6

Faults:

At 127 000 kilometers, clutch hydraulics needed replacing.

I can't see the cup holders at night, very annoying.

General Comments:

Very comfortable on long trips, even though I don't have the extended cab and the interior is small.

Sound system is great, even better with an aftermarket CD player.

Truck looks sweet, the front end makes the truck look like its about to kick some ass.

Ride is smooth and straight, really good with some weight in the back.

The steering wheel is a little hard to turn, but its not bad.

All in all, this ranger edge is alright in my book, I hope it lasts as long as my 87 LTD Crown Victoria LX did...400 000 kilometres!!

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0

Faults:

Leaking PCV pipe.

General Comments:

This is a Ranger XLT 4x4 supercab with 4 doors. The 4.0 motor in the truck is great. I was surprised how many rpm's the motor turns compared to the 4 liter in my 1993 Ranger. A very powerful motor. Handling is also good.

The big problem is with the gas mileage and the ride. I get less than 15 MPG doing combined city and freeway driving. I just drove 120 miles highway, then 80 miles city/freeway and it only got 15.8 MPG. The ride is also bad. I notice a ton of frame flex on the highway unless carrying about 200 pounds in the bed. I think the 4 doors are the problem.

Overall the main problem with this truck is the gas mileage. I guess the reliability makes up for the lost money on gas.

2001 Ford Ranger Ford XTL 2.3

Summary:

The truck is very reliable

Faults:

I had to replace clutch at 90,000 miles. The other driver used to ride foot on clutch.

Still have original tires. I am due for tires, but still have tread.

General Comments:

I commute 500 miles a week and have had no problems. This is my third ranger I consider it is very reliable.

Looking for other high mileage ford ranger owners.
