2002 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L V6

Summary:

A very good, reliable vehicle for a teenager who likes pickup trucks.

Faults:

At 27,000 miles, a mechanic changed the oil and caused an oil leak. Caused by a defective oil filter.

General Comments:

My truck is very reliable, gets good gas mileage, but I wish it had more room in the cab.

Rides very well on the highway.

Quite a new vehicle model to have a standard odometer.

Overall, very good.

I really thought I would like the Ranger Edge because of its sporty design and off road package. So far, I'm really not happy with it. I have had some problems. The truck has 40,000 miles on it and here are my complaints. The tires have scalloped and make terrible noise at about 40,000 miles. The oil pressure guage needle freaks out when the truck comes down to idle at a traffic light. I have already had to replace the alternator. The fog lights have both burned out. The light for the guages has burned out. The oil filter is very hard to reach. The CD player often jams. The windshield has cracks and dings because it does not deflect debris very well. It is too straight up and down. (look around and you will notice cracked windshield on most rangers that are a few years old) Ford's bug shield has not helped. The doors freeze shut. The painted front bumper quickly rusts from dings. Otherwise, it would be a pretty good truck because it is sporty looking, it's good in the snow and gets about 20 miles to the gallon.

2002 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L

Summary:

Awesome car to own

Faults:

Once in a while I would get a false check engine light, but when I brought it in, they fixed the sensor and it has been OK since.

General Comments:

1. Powerful!

2. handles very good, (3inch lift on mine 31 inch tiers)

3. big cab, a lot of room

4. not to loud (on the inside) I have a flow master cat back system on mine.

2002 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0

Summary:

Good all-around truck!

Faults:

The only problem that I have had with the truck is the EGR valve. I had to have this replaced at 39000. The check engine light is on constantly, but when I take it in, they say that there is nothing wrong and shut the light off. The truck is running fine, but it makes me a little nervous. The truck has a 6 CD changer. It will eject cd's if I hit a hard bump.

General Comments:

All in all it seems like a great truck! Great in the snow, and I can still haul a load. I like the added height. I will be trading this truck in soon though due to a 45 mile, one-way commute to work, and the rising gas prices.

I am not impressed with the ride. I know it is a truck, but I can barely take a drunk of coffee while I am driving!

2002 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II 4.0 Liter V6

Summary:

Great truck and the best feature is the 4 doors (that was a must for me)

Faults:

So far nothing has gone wrong with my truck. I've had it for a little over a month now. When I first got it, the airbag light came on, but only stayed on for a few hours and haven't seen it on since. Other than that, it seems to be reliable.

General Comments:

I went from a 2 door car to the 4 door Ranger and am glad I made the swap. I love the utility of the 4 door and the pickup bed is great (not too big not too small.) I don't need the bed to haul anything, only for occasional items and to move in and out of my dorm room. I have the biggest Ranger engine and its adequate, but the acceleration is nothing like my sports car. I love the looks of the Ranger and because I have the FX4 edition, the tires and rims are great. The seats and interior are comfortable and I love the bucket seats with the center console. The jump seats are also comfortable enough, but aren't used much. My biggest complaint is gas mileage, but I expected poor mileage from the truck.
