1992 Ford Taurus GL V6 3.0

Summary:

Its cheap and affordable

Faults:

The spark plugs were replaced at 68000k miles. Replaced with new decent ones.

The Spark plug wires were replaced with new 8mm highperformance ones at 69000k miles.

The Automatic transmission will prob need to be replaced sometime soon.

The car needs new tires as well.

I think the back brakes are not so great too cause they lockup really easily.

General Comments:

The works alright for my needs right now. Though my friends poke fun at the fact that the car has a crappy acceleration curve. It seems to have good power at about 3500-4500k RPM.

The Automatic tranny is really bad. It shafts all of the the time. The shifting is really rough too.

The car also seems to have a lot of overheating problems too. Sometimes the engine will get really hot and sometimes it just stays cool. Its really strange.

1992 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6

Summary:

Great, super reliable car

Faults:

Oxygen sensors replaced a couple times since we bought it.

Rear (and probably front) struts need to be replaced right now (183,000 miles).

Air conditioner stopped working around 160,000 miles.

Weather stripping at bottom corner of windshield wore out around 180,000 miles causing water leak into passenger floor.

General Comments:

Overall, this car has been extremely reliable. It has served as a family car when first purchased, and as my "work car" for the last year.

I have the oil changed about every 7,000 miles, and other than the typical problems with computer components wearing out after MANY miles, we have not had to put much money into this car at all. I just had the starter replaced for (I think) the first time yesterday. The exhaust pipe and muffler are still the originals installed at the factory. The struts have finally worn out, but that is not surprising given the number of miles on the vehicle.

1992 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6

Summary:

A car more expensive to fix than to buy

Faults:

There is an electric problem in the car that create static electricity: when you touch the door after using the car you get static. This problem is hurting the electronics in the car.

First problem was the fan CPU that died causing over heating of the engine.

Next problem was the fuel pump that died, you are stuck just like if you run out of gas.

Third the water pump was leaking and needed to be replaced (it's not funny to have steam coming out of the car).

I had to replace my water hoses, but this is OK after 10 years.

Last problem my transmission died on me.

Everything happened in 12 month, 15 000 miles.

The car drink a lot: 17 miles/gallon city/highway. However it drinks 25% less on highway only.

The steering is very noisy like other owners have reported.

General Comments:

This car is affordable considering equipment. It feels like having a high end model.

Very comfortable, 3 seats on the front, 3 on the back. This can be useful.

Huge trunk, you could sleep in it.

Nice stereo system with easy access for the driver.

What causes the fuel pump not to work. It seem as if it is out of gas. We replaced it, but still has the same problem.

1992 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 3.0 V6

Summary:

Comfortable good value car

Faults:

Considering the car had done 194,000 miles when I got it, very little went wrong.

I replaced the brake pads and tires, but that is just general wear and tear.

The only things that broke are the windshield washer pump and one of the rear window motors.

Also I had to replace 1 motor mount.

Not bad for a 200,000 mile car!

General Comments:

I have been very pleased with this car. I would certainly buy another.

It has never let me down during the 16,000 miles I owned it.

I've taken it on long trips with confidence in its performance and reliability.

Average gas mileage is about 25 city and about 32 highway which is not bad I think for an old 3.0 V6.

It is very comfortable to drive, I drove 620 miles one day and got out the car feeling like I had only driven maybe about 100 miles.
