Faults:

Water pump: It was the original, and went after 126,000 miles. You simply cannot ask for more out of a piece of machinery.

My windshield washer fluid pump has gone out, and I suspect that has more to do with it being manhandled when fixing the water pump than anything else. It's only going to be $14.00 to replace anyways.

I'm beginning to have an odd problem with the transmission selector not going into park. Instead, it goes to reverse, and I have to double check and really push to the farthest end to make sure it is indeed in park.

General Comments:

This car is smooth and very utilitarian. No, it's not flashy, and no, it's not quick off the line. But it starts when I turn the key, and I'm pretty sure that as long as I do the upkeep, it'll keep running.

I don't need anything more than this. However, I do wish I got better gas mileage. I think I'm getting about 21-ish, and I'm wondering if I need to get some sensors replaced to get that up?

Faults:

Auto transmission failed repeatedly. Finding a suitable aluminum case worthy of rebuild proved impossible.

The AXOD will fail. If you own a car like this, throw in the towel unless you wanna pay for another rebuild annually.

Power steering failed repeatedly; pumps, racks, yada yada.

Power windows failed often.

Struts/shocks failed often.

Without a doubt, the biggest piece of crap ever offered by any manufacturer.

General Comments:

Junk... run, run, run, run away.

Faults:

Front springs and struts, gas tank and fuel pump, rear brake lines. All of this work was performed at over 250000 km.

Up till that time, the Taurus ran like a top and never ever failed to get me to work. I commute about 6000kms a month, and with snow tires on I never failed to get where I was going.

I also did three front and rear brake jobs, rotors, pads and one pair of rear calipers.

General Comments:

Excellent car, quite comfortable, good fuel mileage if driven at posted speed limits. Don't corner at high speeds though, you might regret it.

Stereo sucked, so I put in an decent aftermarket deck.

I was amazed how much junk you can load in this thing. My wife hated the wagon until she needed to pick up a rather large box. She took over the wagon for a while.

Preventative maintenance is important with a Taurus. Regular oil changes and transmission services along with all the other recommended service is a must. If you take care of it, you will get a reliable long lasting comfortable ride. I did take care of mine, and for 460000kms I enjoyed my wagon. I had a Taurus wagon prior to this one that did 390000kms, and that was also a pleasure to own.

Faults:

- Engine was knocking when vehicle was purchased, dealer replaced for no charge 63000 miles.

- Heater hose blew out at 65000 miles, $10.

- Sunroof switch went out, not yet replaced.

- Front struts and coil springs replaced, 73000 miles, $800.

- Fuel pump replaced, 73000 miles, $140.

- Plugs, wires, cap and rotor replaced, 73000 miles, $75.

- Tensioner replaced, 73000 miles, $45.

- Trans fluid and filter replaced, 73000 miles, $30.

- Outer tie rods replaced, 73000 miles, $40.

- Stabilizer bar links replaced, 73000 miles, $80.

- Fuel filter replaced, 73000 miles, $15.

General Comments:

Very luxurious car, all leather, digital HVAC, premium sound, sunroof, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, alloy wheels. Very comfortable driving car.
