Faults:

All engine mounts needed replacing shortly after purchase.

Electrical system problems: Floor lights stay on after the doors are closed because the car thinks that there is a door ajar for some reason.

Camshaft position sensor had to be replaced.

Transmission has been replaced twice. I was smart enough to buy a warranty, and good thing, the transmission needs replacing again!

Oxygen sensor was replacing.

Cradle mount needed replacing shortly after car's purchase.

Rack and pinion and power steering pump broke at about 100,000 miles.

Water pump went at 140,000 miles.

Pulley seized on the car, and caused the serpentine belt to be thrown overheating my coolant reservoir and blowing the top off it.

General Comments:

I have more repairs that need to be made. The only reason that the above repairs were performed is that we still owe quite a bit of money on the car. We try not to drive it unless we have to, this would be my advice if you have accidentally purchased a 1997 Ford Taurus. Either sell it quickly or buy another car to drive in it's place, because chances are more likely than not that you will shortly have to perform some fairly major repairs.

General Comments:

It is probably the best car you can get with so much features and at such a low price.

I love this car. It has been a very reliable car.

Who says American cars are bad?

The only bad thing about this car (and probably a lots of other American cars) is that it depreciates real fast. That makes it good for the buyer. But then buyer has to be a seller one day!

Better than most of the Japanese cars with this age and this much mileage.

Faults:

The transmission sensor switch went bad which cost approximatly $200.00 from a private garage to fix.

The doors rattle... I still can't find why or were this is coming from.

The door ajar light comes on every once in awhile. I found out spraying WD-40 in the door locks as stopped this almost completely now.

The rotors have been bad causing the wheel to shake when stopping. I just got a brake job with new rotors and it only lasted about 3000 miles and it's back again.

The car was overheating and found out it was the reservoir tank that had a tiny leak in it. Now it's fine. I got a new battery which I tried first, but didn't help.

General Comments:

I really needed this car to haul stuff which it has done a wonderful job doing. I also like the ride which is very comfortable. getting in and out is a breeze. If you are looking for something quick this is not it. but overall a good car so far...

Faults:

Carpet on the driver's side has a very noticeable rip in it.

The lever that opens the hood was missing. I got another one at the salvage yard.

I had to replace the battery as soon as I got the car.

Minor problem with the windshield wipers. This was not costly to repair.

General Comments:

The car looks good and drives great. My husband even enjoys driving it and he's very big on performance. It is very stylish.

I feel safe in the car. The air bags and anti-lock brakes are very nice to have.

The power steering is unusually noisy, but we can't find anything wrong with it.

I love the stereo and the seats are comfortable. I can't wait to get it out on the road for a longer trip.

The gas mileage has been very good so far.

I plan to drive this car as long as it remains mechanically sound. Chances are it will eventually be replaced by yet another Taurus. It's the third one I've owned. I would still have the second one if it had not gotten wrecked.
