1997 Ford Taurus GL 3.0L V6

Summary:

Great, reliable car that you can pick up cheap

Faults:

Very little has gone wrong with the car aside from a couple of weird things...

- Radio didn't work in reverse

- Motor mount was loose

- Spark Knock.

However, all problems were (fairly) easily fixed.

General Comments:

Very reliable car... has survived multiple Michigan winters without problem, and the 3-L V6 gives plenty of giddy-up when you need it.

If you complain about power, turn off the AC and you may be able to supercharge it to its full 145-HP.

Braking and acceleration are firm, and the handling is nice (when wheels are aligned).

Great for long road trips... interior has mucho room for both back seat passengers and tons of trunk space... although, there are a shortage of cup holders.

1997 Ford Taurus 3.0 V6

Summary:

Worthwhile if VERY cheap and you know what to expect.

Faults:

Problems with interior lights when the car was purchased- fuse was disconnected.

Door ajar light stays on most of the time, goes off only randomly.

Power window motors have stopped working several times on three of the four doors.

Bad shifter interlock cylanoid.

Slow coolant leak beginning months after purchase- although monitored, fatally overheated the engine.

General Comments:

I can only blame myself for purchasing a car which is now exhibiting the same costly problems as is expected of this model. I am only waiting on the transmission to start acting up...

The car is spacious and comfortable.

The sound system, A/C, heater, and cruise control all work fine.

The car does not have as much power as it used to, especially on hills- a sure sign of a slow, drawn-out death.

Coolant link, Coolant reservoir tank was probably cracked leaking... don't ignore leaks! (And before the import people chime in, this is a problem on some civics too!)

The door ajar light, interior lights, and power window issues is probably caused by the "electronic door hinge" on the driver door. Instead of passing wires through the door this is more of a rotating contact design. I have seen it fail on only a couple of cars, I am thinking because of moisture.

At 100k its due for a tune up. New plugs, wires, PVC valve (and its hose), Ait filter, Fuel Filter, and a seafoam treatment (get at auto store), and you will gain your performance back. The 3.0 ohv (Vulcan can last 300k without loosing power, My Duratec 3.0 V6 has lasted 200k and after a tuneup at 150k it runs like a champ.

1997 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6

Summary:

Worth every dollar and more

Faults:

The alternator has been replaced twice.

The catalytic converter had to be replaced at 200,000 miles.

The torque converter clutch is on its way out, but still running.

General Comments:

With regular oil changes this car has lasted longer than I expected. I purchased it used for $4,000.00 and definitely got my money's worth. Everything inside is in great shape, the electric windows work, the air conditioning is cold, the cruise control works, the radio plays just fine. It handles well and hasn't experienced any shock or spring failures, and all the steering system is original, tie rods etc.

1997 Ford Taurus GL

Summary:

A Great Reliable Amazing First Car

Faults:

N/A.

General Comments:

This beige 1997 Ford Taurus GL has been in my family since the start. Bought in 1997 by my grandparents, The car only has little dings and scrathes, but since they were terrible drivers, That's great condition. I got as a birthday present on my 16th birthday when my grandparents lost their licenses and I was happy. With beige velour interior and a large cabin, I was happy. Its not only stylish from the exterior, but from the interior also. With its easy-to-reach radio and climate controls, Driving was a since. Now that I'm 17 and having the car for a year, I can only say one thing,"WoW!"

It's great. The Front Wheel Drive and it's large size make its it real safe in the snow. The Summers great. All I can say is that it's a great reliable amazing first car!
