1999 Ford Taurus SE

Summary:

It looks nice, but looks aren't everything

Faults:

I only got the car about six months ago, luckily I had a 30 day warranty. The battery light would always go on after 80 miles/hour. They put in a new alternator.

My steering wheel was very shaky, it was hard to turn, plus made a "crying" noise. They had to put a new steering pump, another part to make it easy to turn, then ball joints, and an alignment and balance. It also smells like rotten eggs on the highway, they found a leak in the anti-freeze, and changed some wires, but it still sometimes smells.

The second to the last day of the warranty, I was cold and tried the heat, guess what, nothing, it was hot then went cold. So because it was summer and my AC was fine, they said in the winter when I go on my maternity leave, they will fix the heat. The only money I had to really put in it was oil changes a pulley and front brakes, so far. They put over $800 in the first month.

Oh yea, and some times when I use my turn signal, the wipers go on for some reason.

This was also from a private dealer who were my friends, so I got lucky with that too.

General Comments:

To me its very comfortable and roomy. Its runs good and is pretty quiet, plus it looks nice. When I got it, it was at 116,000 so a lot of the problems were already taken care of, thank God I drive over 60 miles to work and back because otherwise I would have never noticed half of the problems. But again, hopefully that don't kill the car.

Sorry - you bought a car with 116k and got a warranty???

The hot, then cold air blowing is the climate control at work (if fitted - I think all Taunuses are). If you leave it to stabilise with the windows shut it will attain the right temperature.

The rotten eggs smell is from the catalytic converter and is caused by the high sulphur content in the petrol. It has nothing to do with the cooling system.

The squealing is either the power steering pump seizing or the drivebelt slipping, or water leaking over the drivebelt.

Summary:

I hate this car.

Faults:

Seat belts lock up at any time.

Door open light comes on and stays on for no reason.

Head gasket blew twice within a two years of each other.

Spark plug problems causing exhaust system problems.

Power seats only work one way.

Always needing to buy little this and that's.

General Comments:

I wouldn't buy this car ever again. If it wasn't so cheap buying it from my parents, I would never had bought it.

Seems like the car held up amazingly well to me. You got 338,000 miles on it!

Sounds to me like you got a hell of a deal with that mileage. I'd be babying that car. I've never had a car go over 250000. Treat her well.

1999 Ford Taurus SE

Summary:

It is the worst car I've ever owned!!!

Faults:

When I had the car a week the brakes started grinding (at Less than 11,000 miles). The dealer did not believe it until he checked it, then replaced both front & back brakes.

Windshield wipers go on & off at will after 20,000 miles

Right after extended warranty expired, I had to replace ball joints, rack & pinion steering, & power steering pump!!! to the tune of $2,000 at less than 50,000 miles.

Service engine soon light comes on & off at whim-most times will stay on for several days to a week.

General Comments:

This car should have had recalls for these serious problems.

My son & his wife bought the same model with more mileage, but have had to have THEIR rack & pinion fixed a week before I did & their Service engine soon light has been on for several months!

We are both disgusted with these vehicles-they are LEMONS as far as we are concerned!
