1999 Ford Taurus
Summary:
If I have another problem with this car, I will not by another Ford Taurus SE
Faults:
I don't know a lot about cars. However, I just bought my '99' Taurus SE at 94,000 miles at the end of February of this year '05'.
Few weeks ago my wheel was hard to turn and my car was leaking tremendously. My mechanic informed me that my power steering pump went out and rack and pinion. $700- fix. It seems to be having the same problem.
My car and steering wheel shake when I brake, and when I come to a complete stop my car jerks as though it wants to drive on its own.
I called Ford and asked them if there were any recalls on a rack and pinion and she apologized and told me NO!
General Comments:
Overall, so far I am angry, especially when I got on the Internet to see that I wasn't the only one with this problem.
Too many, people is having this problem and it needs to be a recall. We need to do something about this. Ford need to take responsibility. Please feel free to contact me at heven08@aol.com. Thank you!
If we dont complain or take the action then who will?
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I had to have my rack and pinion steering replaced last week. I have owned my 99 Taurus for 5 years, bought it in 2000 used with 21k miles on it. It has been dependable until this summer. it now makes a loud whirring sound which my mechanic replied, "fords do that"... I have spent close to $1700 in repairs in the last year on my car, but can't afford a new one. FORDS suck I will never buy another...

Same here. I have replaced the rack, pump (3 times), serpentine belt (3 times), pulley on the pump (3 times) hose.

I also had a problem with my rack and pinion and pump, all needed to be replaced on my 99 ford taurus. It is too bad that Ford doesn't have a recall for the rack and pump. I am extremely disappointed with my car. It has cost me a lot of money and a lot of headaches.
