1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0

Summary:

Started good; ended bad

Faults:

This car ran really well for the first three years.

Then we had problems beginning in (2002) with the rack and pinion and power steering gave out. That was an expensive repair.

Then the next year (2003) the transmission gave out. That was even more expensive.

In (2004) the alternator gave out.

Now in (2005) my oil light comes on for no apparent reason and the car automatically shuts off. The mechanic changed the oil pump and checked the pan to no avail. The only other thing he thinks it could be is motor damage.

General Comments:

The car has a lot of miles on it and has served pretty well. Most of the miles are highway and it's not been handled rough so I think I'll let sleeping dogs lie and buy another car instead of having it fixed this time.

I really did like my car and really hate to lose it, but I think the motor should have lasted longer than six years.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 24 valve DOHC

Summary:

V6 Stang Killer!!!

Faults:

Nothing at all.

General Comments:

This car is great. It has the 3.0 24 valve DOHC Duratec with 200 horsepower. This car will flat out get it; I can beat Hondas, Acuras, V6 Mustangs, anything, bring it on.

I plan to add a Borla dual exhaust, K&N intake, and a Ford Racing Jet Module Chip. Altogether this should bring the Taurus to about 250 horsepower; not too bad for a grocery getter.

I call BS I own one exactly like that and I am really into the fords. I have also done research and you can't put dual exhaust on the car. Yes it does Get up and Go, but it isn't 200 horse it is about 180. So yeah I Call BS. Andrew0924@aol.com.

1999 Ford Taurus SE

Summary:

To soon to tell!!!

Faults:

I just purchased my 1999 Ford Taurus SE from my father last week (Dec. 25, 2004). He took really great care of the car and always had it serviced. So here is my problem. The "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light came on pretty much the first day I really drove it. I took the car to the shop to get the code read. The Fault code was "P1744" (Torque Converter Clutch System Mechanically stuck in off position). I was just curious if anyone out there has had the same problem and if there is a fix for this which is inexpensive.

General Comments:

Mechanic said they would have to drop the Transmission to change the Torque Converter. Estimated repair is around $1000. Please help!!!

Unfortunately, this seems to be the particular glitch in this model year (my experience has been very good otherwise.)

I had a similar problem with my 1999 Taurus SE Wagon (then 95,000, now 104,000) in 2003. The good news is that the car should be drivable with this problem (although you risk damage to the transmission.) The only way to fix mine was to actually have the transmission dropped. The mechanics attempted to fix the transmission, which worked fine for a while. The tranny was later replaced, because they had put a seal in backwards and the transmission was bleeding energy, causing a gradual decline in efficiency. Since then, the car has had no mechanical problems whatsoever.

In short, it is probably best to pay for this service up front and make sure its done properly. Use a mechanic you trust and you should be fine.

Last night I took my 1999 Ford Taurus to a friend of mine, and he said that the same code came up on my car. TCC. The problems I've had with the car are, I have no power steering, the heat went out (after putting a lot of money, we finally replaced the water pump and it worked fine), the windshield wipers come on sometimes for no reason, sometimes the door is closed, but my "open door" light is on, along with the light on the ceiling, my muffler is going bad (it's getting louder by the day!) and sometimes when I start the car, it will idle funny and then stall... unless I give it gas, then it will slowly idle right. I think I am going to see about trading it in! I've had it for a year and it has about 120,000 miles. But with all of the problems, it's not worth it!
