1999 Ford Taurus SE Wagon

Summary:

Decent car, but problems need to be recalled

Faults:

I bought our 1999 Taurus wagon with relatively low miles. We thought great a decent used car without having to spend a fortune on upkeep.

Our power steering started to fail I added a small amount of fluid to the unit thinking no big deal it was a little low, my wife was nervous we bought the car with a closed out 401k.

We needed a car we could trust so I did research on dependability and such.

We have two young children and we are just getting by. Power steering failed again after a few miles. I bring it to a ford dealer thinking 100.00 or so maybe a hose or something similar. Bang 800.00 for a steering rack DOA at 62000.

Now I see too many people with the same amount of miles and the identical problem, call ford everyone. This is definately a recall issue,800-392-3873

My car sits now waiting for me to save cash to fix it. My summer is ruined for my young family. Ford said they have never heard this before its been documented, and is very easy to find this problem, I never ever thought a power steering unit would waste our 7000.00 investment.

Same problem with my 1999 Taurus. Just replaced the rack after 60,254. That is Kilometers NOT miles.

Power steering went out on me too after 50xxx miles. Very disappointed in this vehicle. I worry about the transmission also.

1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 24v

Summary:

Never again

Faults:

Rack and pinion changed second day owning car, under warranty.

Spark plugs fouled out at 46000 miles, then again at 50000 miles.

Front axles need to be changed, CV joints are contaminated.

Changed brakes at 60000 miles, then again at 63000 miles.

Tires at 50000 miles, then one tire changed due to alignment issues at 52000 miles.

Cleaned out upper intake manifold at 59000 miles, then again at 62000 miles.

General Comments:

The transmission after going in reverse then into drive will lurch forward violently for a few minutes.

Gas mileage is low, at about 12MPG street and 16 MPG highway.

The car is comfortable in the seats.

The car is reliable for the large things, but its too much of a hassle to deal with.

I'm sorry to read that your "TAURI" is such a night mare for you. I've had two Tauruses and one Sable in the past and am currently driving a 2000 Taurus SE and LOVE IT!!!

I haven't had any problems out of any of them. One was a 1995 wagon LX with 3.8L, no problems. Traded it @ 93,000mi for the SE. The wife's got a '97 GL with 115,000mi showing and no problems. I leased a 2000 Sable LS Premium, loved it! I keep a log on my MPG's and I average 23MPG on my SE which I think is pretty good. I would recommend a Taurus?Sable to anyone. And with the exception of the Sable, all my "TAURI's" have been used. Go figure.

1999 Ford Taurus LX Automatic

Summary:

I think this car is OK nothing to brag about

Faults:

My head gasket blew

I like my 99Ford as far as comfort goes and for the most part I can't say that I have had many problems. The thing I am concerned about is the Gasket have been replaced twice since I've had this car. The problem begin with the car just running Hot and than one thing lead to another and the Gaskets needed to be replaced. I think my problems major and minor have been my fault more than anything, but to hear so many people having similar problems, is very scary to say the least. I would not by a new ford, but I am trying to take of the one I have providing I don't need anymore major work done.

General Comments:

This car is very nice to ride in.

This car is appealing for families.
