Faults:

My Tempo only has one problem, it stalls sometimes when I've been going, then comes to a complete stop.

General Comments:

My new 1991 Ford Tempo GL was just bought, I got it for 800.00. It has only 80,000 miles on it.

I bought it from a guy who is a mechanic, he bought the car from an auction, here in Rock Hill, S.C. When he got it, the car had sat for a long time, he put new injectors on it, and also a fuel pump, located in the gas tank. He also put in new plugs and wires, and even put a new computer board in the car. His daughter was 16 years old, and drove the car for about 20,000 miles with no real problems to speak of. He also had the car painted, plus fixed the air conditioner in it.

The inside of this car is in fantastic shape, and the outside is good too. He told me as a personal friend, this car will be great for many more miles to come. I just picked it up, and I totally believe him.

From this web site, I have learned that the stalling issue is nothing more than a TPS sensor, the cost id 20.00, and it's right on top of the engine too. Looking forward to saving lots of money driving this car.

Faults:

The windshield wiper knob broke off. My dad replaced it with a toggle switch.

The only power window that works in it is the driver's rear. I wish the windows rolled down manually.

Last winter it did have a tendency to stall, or when I ran the A/C in it. After replacing the fuel filter, it's only stalled once.

It is VERY rusty. The body will probably fall apart before the engine breaks.

When I make a turn all the way to the left, or all the way to the right, there is a clicking noise.

I had the brakes replaced (the entire works). I think the mechanic was full of crap when he said the brake line rusted out. It is a rusty car, but all of the other lines are fine. When they 'fixed' it, only one brake pad was working. My dad had to correctly fix it.

General Comments:

I purchased this car from my Mom for $350. She got the car for free from a junk yard - my dad has good hook-ups.

I think the car is absolutely hideous - robin egg blue. *puke*

I wish it had cup holders and a better looking interior.

Regardless of it being an ugly, old, rusty car, I am thankful to have it. It's much more reliable than the '92 Buick LeSabre I had. It's stalled on me a few times, but it has never stranded me. This car is very reliable. I think it makes a great work car, and even a road trip car.

It doesn't go through oil. The gas is reasonable, probably 25-30 miles to the gallon.

The headlights are VERY bright.

The car handles horribly in the winter time. It could be because I didn't have the best tires, but to me it seems like a squirrely car.

The acceleration pedal sticks on take off. This car has no balls, but it's fun to drive.

I've had the car for a year, and have replaced the fuel filter, the air filter, the spark plugs, put 4 brand new tires on, and had new brakes put on. I don't think this is bad at all considering it's 20 years old and sat for nearly 10 years without being used.

I've never had issues with the A/C or heater working.
