It is a great car if it wasn't for all the mishaps that have been occuring since the day I recieved it. It is fun to drive and is small. Gets good gas mileage. Once beat a F2 Ferrari in Miami Street Racing Club.

1992 Ford Tempo GL V6 3.0

Summary:

Good economical and practical car

Faults:

Almost a year after it's purchase, the paint started to chip in small areas. The dealership gave us a lot of run around and the problem was never solved.

At around 60,000 miles, the air conditioner went out. I took it to two different repair shops and no one could pin-point the problem. After spending nearly 800 dollars and replacing most of the components, the air conditioning system was repaired.

The headliner started sagging and come apart. We live in a very humid climate, so this may have been the reason for the trouble.

The plastic on the headlights turned a dull yellowish color. This was a problem of most Fords built around this time.

Any other repairs were small and expected for normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

Based on my experience with Fords in the past, this car is very reliable. Most problems were cosmetic. Those cosmetic issues did not out weigh the benefits of a good fuel economy, smooth ride, great pick up with it's V6 engine and simple layout.

If Ford was to make another car as reliable as this one, I would purchase it. This would, however, be some time from now since I don't see selling my 92 Tempo GL V6 any time soon.

1992 Ford Tempo GL 4 cylinder

Summary:

Don't be fooled by this hell car!!

Faults:

Was my Grandmas car, given to me when she died... thought I was getting a deal.

NO!! I've only had it for three months and..

The tie rod broke.

Leaks transmission fluid and power steering fluid.

Eats more gas than the 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I used to have.

When I'm on the freeway and try to go over 60mph, the steering wheel begins to "turn" back and forth uncontrollably.

Will not stay in alignment... hence ruins tires.

Battery will not keep a charge.

Last night the driver's side power seat belt got stuck in the front position, and I now have to drive with it across the steering wheel.

General Comments:

This is actually my second Ford Tempo.

The last one I has was also a piece of crap, but it was a '90 with many miles, so I thought that was why.

NO! This car is just a piece of crap, poorly made, and it should be avoided.

It breaks down all the time and isn't worth the money to fix.

Couldn't agree with you more.

I use to own one to and everything you said happened to yours happened to mine.

But my Tempos timing belt went, alternator, brakes, components etc.

Waste of money!!!

Interesting I have own 2 Tempos and both had over 200,000km on them with no problems. Consider the car I had before my first tempo was a Chevy Nova that bit the dust a 60,000km, I would consider the Tempo a good reliable car, if looked after properly.

1992 Ford Tempo GL

Summary:

I hate tempos

Faults:

When I first got it the transmission blew.

Then my head pipe on the muffler went.

My heater smells like it is burning and the air broke.

The alternator belt is squeaking and now I have a huge hole in the muffler.

The driver side seatbelt doesn't work anymore and the drivers seat is broken so I have to hold myself up when I drive.

General Comments:

When I got the car, I thought it was a dream come true. I thought it was great. Then the trans blew and it was all down hill from there.
