1994 Ford Tempo GL

Summary:

Great for around town, but not so much if you travel between cities a lot like I do

Faults:

The engine has been making a loud clanking noise.

The headlights don't like to turn off.

The automatic seat belts don't always work.

The lock on the glove compartment broke.

The oil leaks a little.

The automatic locks only work on 2 of the doors.

The tint film peeled off.

The rear view mirror fell off.

General Comments:

The car really puts up a fight when I try to take it on the highway. It's not too keen on going fast.

1994 Ford Tempo LX

Summary:

Cheap Car, don't expect too many goodies

Faults:

At 60k suspension gave up, in next 500 miles timing chain broke. Gas pedal got stuck (changed the cables). Front Calipers worn out. Water from the AC leaked inside like a small Niagara water fall during sharp turns. Repeated cleanings of the AC drain pipe didn't help. Finally the colling system failed on an interstate. To top the misery Ford dealer in my place is very unreliable. He doesn't investigate the problem he instead does guess work which cost me $680...With the problems coming back in a day or two.

General Comments:

Good (if you get one in good condition) cheap car. As long as you don't take it to a Ford dealer its cheap to fix. Parts are cheap. Top speed on the dials is 80m/hr. So driving on interstate is ruled out don't even try (simply dies for power). Good for daily commute. Noisy ride, cramped seats. Controls of wipers, headlights, heater, very very flimsy.

1994 Ford Tempo GL 3.0L V6

Summary:

I absolutely adore this car.

Faults:

One of the sensors in my transmission overheats and causes it to red line the RPM before it shifts.

The solenoid in my starter is starting to go bad.

The power lock doesn't lock the driver side door.

General Comments:

I was given this car for my 18th birthday and I absolutely love it.

It was previously owned by an elderly couple and they took very good care of it.

My father owns a Ford Taurus SHO and when we parked them side by side, my step-mother commented that my car looked like my fathers only smaller. "It's a baby Taurus." she said.

Aside from a minor ding in the passenger side rear door, there are no flaws on its exterior. Although, it is a bit dingy from sitting on a car lot.

I think these cars are great for new drivers.

1994 Ford Tempo GL 4 cylinder

Summary:

In spite of all that is wrong it gets me to work and school

Faults:

Speedometer went out at about 100,000 miles.

Odometer went out at about 100,000 miles.

Automatic seat belts went out at about 110,000 miles.

Car is now 3-4 different shades of reddish pink.

Starter goes out about every 4 months.

Serpentine belt is currently going out at approximately 150,000 miles (estimating because odometer is broken).

Warning lights went out at about 70,000 miles.

Inside door paneling is coming off.

Randomly leaks oil.

Oil leaks into transmission fluid occasionally.

Engine sounds like a sewing machine.

Breaks go out quickly.

Seats have started to wear badly.

Radiator fluid disappears.

Fuel pump is going out at about 150,000 miles.

Main line to air conditioner broke when hit while parked. The other car was going about 20 m.p.h.

Randomly shuts off and sometimes turns itself back on while driving on the interstate. (I know this sounds really weird, but I swear that it happens and I haven't the faintest idea why!)

General Comments:

In spite of all of the things that have gone wrong with this car... after approximately 150,000 miles it still runs! The only time it fails me is when the starter goes out. However, if you bang on the starter while turning the ignition it will give you a good week of starting power. I am going to drive this car into the ground.

1994 Ford Tempo GL 2.4 4 cylinder

Summary:

A cheap, old 94 Ford Tempo is a superb car

Faults:

Radiator leakage near 70,000, replaced radiator.

Turn signal lever broke loose, but still can use.

Headlight knob broke loose, but still can use.

Never buy a car with power seat-belts! Mine went out around 75,000. When the belt went to come back over it sat and grind-ed. Can replace motor and belt, but I just yanked out the power cord and left the belt in position.

I think the factory brakes just now went out, if that is possible. This is my first car.

Power locks broke before I bought it.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car. Its got a name for being an old-Ladies car, but its got a lot of power for a 4 cy, its gotten me out of places in a hurry when I needed it too. I've driven a more manuverable cars (Plymouth Neon) and those only beat it by a small margin on my part.

Factory paint job was done well as it shows no signs of rust. The seats and interior are much softer and nicer than even some newer cars. All instermentation runs correctly. I think my speakers are dying though.

Have driven it long distances without problem and doesn't really guzzle gas that bad. Very comfortable to drive. Still has a good A/C and the heater starts working fast.

Have had this car for a few years and I never want to part with it. I thought Tempos were only school cars, but I'll drive it till it dies.
