Faults:

Transmission failed under heavy acceleration at 108,000 miles.

Doors started to rust through after 12 winters.

Speedometer started sticking on hot summer days after 10 years.

Early disc brakes pads made much noise and were quickly replaced.

General Comments:

An excellent car that served well through many winters. Excellent handling and acceleration. Only 243 Sports made that year. Had unique suspension, transmission, and differential.

Faults:

Rust along the kicker panel.

General Comments:

It's got enough power & speed for my road car, but it isn't a Ball In Motion Chevelle.

Faults:

Head gasket @ 80,000 miles.

Head gasket again @ 147,000 miles.

Body rot : drivers door, passenger rocker panel.

Fuel pump @ 147,000 miles.

Shocks, springs, inner & outer tie rods, upper & lower control arms, sway bar end links & bushings, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, brake hoses & hard lines to rear, pass side rear wheel bearing @ 115,000 miles.

Ignition coil @ 135,000 miles.

A/c failed @ 60,000 miles.

General Comments:

I had a lot of fun driving this car hard for the last 18 years.

It never left me stranded by the side of the road, and never failed to start.

It was very roomy with loads of front leg room.

It was nicely designed, well made and easy to work on.

It was very reasonably priced.

Body rot ultimately made it not worth repairing.

The parking brake adjusts the rear drums, use it or the rear brakes stop working, transferring the load to the front, causing the rotors to warp.

The 3.8L V6 has a head gasket problem, I would not recommend this engine, get the V8.

Heating & cooling and braking systems weak.

The alternator, water pump, radiator and exhaust were original (!)

Faults:

Overdrive gear on transmission went out. Required a rebuild with improved parts!

General Comments:

Car handles very well and acceleration is excellent with the 5.0 HO motor!

Faults:

Things that have gone wrong with my car in the 5 years I have had it.

Window fell out of door, when rolling it up.

Replace the alternator 2 times.

Replace the starter.

Cloth on roof is falling down.

Had to replace all ball joints.

Crake in engine.

Both door handles are coming apart.

Dash has been coming apart.

Seat belt and check engine light stay on, even though I have had both checked.

Both stand by brake lights in back went out which it cost $100 to be replaced since you have to buy the whole light.

Door came off hinges.

General Comments:

This car after so many years... you just don't want it. I have spent more money replacing items than what the car is worth.

Faults:

After sitting around for years exhaust was ruined, wires were faulty, plastic parts (distributor) were ruined, but no rust anywhere.

Door handles broke easily.

Power windows engine stripped.

General Comments:

3.8L V6 can be a real beast when added performance parts.

Dual exhaust with good converters and mufflers gives it the meanest growl.

Car is really fast. Only thing that I can say is that on automatic models start is not as fast as it should be, but mid range is extremely powerful. I solved that problem by installing 5 speed manual transmission. It is like a whole new car now. Quick and fast.
