Winter tyres don't work, trust me I've tried them
The throttle sticks when I stuff it, and the shift kit that was put in causes the OD to not shift down sometimes.
Other than that, there is nothing wrong with the car.
I bought the car for $700, and it's in great condition.
It has a custom 3" straight pipe exhaust, Ford racing distributor and wires. The transmission was rebuilt with a shift kit and it has 30000 km on it.
I'm only 16, but I love to drive fast, well planted cars. That's what this car is. It handles smoothly in the corners, and when I need it, it's got a 5.0L V8 under the bonnet producing 205 hp (since the exhaust restricts the power, mine's running about 250 hp), and does it ever show. 0-60 is just 8.8 seconds.
On the down side, the car is not a good winter car whatsoever. Fuel economy, well I wouldn't buy it for that.
Also the brakes don't work as well as they should. Put it this way, if it's a sports car, and I'm driving it like a sports car, and I wanna stop... well good luck with that.
But overall, the car is excellent and is a fun drive. I will own it forever.

Very comfortable car, and still looks nice for being 17 years old, but the 3.8 motor is not reliable
Blown head gasket.
I just recently bought this car for $1450. It's been a one owner granny car most of its life, and it was very well taken care of. I really liked this car and thought I found a good one, but I didn't research enough about the car. I found out that the 3.8 V6 motors are common for blown head gaskets. :(
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the car, but if I can come up with the money to fix it, I'd like to.

Thunderbird LX worth every penny!!
Nothing, until recently.
The fuel pump needs to be replaced.
I'm surprised it's lasted this long. The thing still drove at 272,000 miles, but now the fuel pump decided to go.
I bought the vehicle in Wisconsin and it was originally from California so there is very little rust.
It also has an anti-theft mechanism under the steering wheel... you need a chip to start it up. I guess this was common on California cars even back then.
I paid $400 bucks for it 5 months ago and now a mechanic wants $475 to fix the fuel pump, so I must sell it.
The car is very comfortable to drive and all around an enjoyable experience.

Rather sporty car, even if slow
Replaced #1 and #2 cylinder fuel injectors at $60 USD per injector.
Replaced Water Pump at $45 USD.
The Thunderbird is rather underpowered for the size of the car. The Normally Aspirated 3.8 Liter V-6 only makes 140 horsepower.
The front disc/rear drum brake combination works well.
The suspension is too soft for extreme high performance driving, but it will do.
The 3.8 Liter gets 20 MPG City/27 MPG Highway.

An underpowered, overly thirsty boat
Heating Coil failed sometime before 2002.
Solenoid failed around 200,000, also starter motor.
Brakes began squealing around 200,038.
Transmission began skipping gears around 200,000, possibly flywheel related.
Steering wheel corrodes easily.
The car is very big, and highly comfortable, however, it is prone to break downs that happen repeatedly, not just once.
The steering is the car's best feature, its absolutelu effortless to get this car anywhere, it has one of the best turning radius' I've ever had the chance to use, and palming the wheel takes less effort that scratching your back.
