Faults:

Only minor aging repairs, ie.. leaking oil sending unit, O2 sensors, and regular maintence. Never any major problems. The biggest expense has been having to replace all both headlight assemblies. The plastic lenses have yellow over diminishing the lighting from the headlights. The fog lights are also needing to be replaced for the same problem.

General Comments:

HO 5.0L engine moves the car with no hesitation.

Handling is a little sloppy at high speeds though.

Faults:

Motor Mount at 65,000.

Water Pump at 100,000 miles.

Radiator at 120,000.

General Comments:

Dependable, nice driving car. V6 is strong off the line, but not much left at highway speeds.

Comfortable interior, but very heavy doors that will defy gravit to slam on your shin.

Faults:

Well I got my Thunderbird from one of my dads friends. A month before he sold it to me he rebuilt the engine and did a whole bunch of other stuff like new brake pads. I haven't had to get anything replaced yet, but I do have to get a new windshield. Also I will have to get some new tires down the road other than that nothing I have had to replace or get fixed YET being a Ford and all.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is fast and has good pick up. My passenger side controls don't work so I have to roll down the passengers window no biggie. The car is big and is very comfortable. Its good on gas expecilly on the highway. It is a nice car after having to drive a 1990 Escort.

Faults:

1. At around 48,000 miles the radiator O-ring seal had popped between the top tank and the core. Ford replaced it as a warranty even though the car was out of warranty.

2. Pressure plate fell apart at 72,000 miles. Replaced all clutch components.

3. Heater core started leaking at 75,000 miles.

4. Driver's power window motor crapped out at 75,000 miles.

5. Headlight lenses began yellowing in 1999 and are continuing to get worse.

6. Sway bar links wore out at 80,000 miles.

General Comments:

Although this is about the most problematic Ford product I've owned (my last 2 cars were Ford products 1985 and 1988), I still really like this car. The 3.8 Supercharged engine really rips especially since it's bolted to a 5 spd manual. It is a real torque monster. The 4 wheel independent suspension makes it handle totally different than the other T'birds.

The leather interior is still like new and every accessory works fine. Cosmetically it held up very nicely.

Faults:

Replaced the alternator once at 120,000 and again at 180,000.

Replaced the battery once at about 160,000.

Automatic door locks haven't worked properly since purchase (only one side allows it to lock and neither side will unlock).

Driver side automatic seatbelt motor stopped working.

Driver seat has started to wear out.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable! Other than alternator blowing out, car has always started and ran great.

Gas mileage is excellent on the freeway, and not too bad around town (given how many miles are on the car, it is excellent!).

Inside is built comfortable for the driver, with all controls (temperature/radio) angled for easy driver access (although not so easy access for the passenger).

Seats are comfortable, automatic adjustments on seats allow for quick and efficient changes for a more comfortable ride. Back seats require slightly more leg room, but is very roomy for a "sports car".

Faults:

Front Struts and Air Conditioner.

General Comments:

Excellent power from the V8, although does not compare to the Mustang. I think this is a result of having the automatic. The power really hits around 30 - 40 km/h and builds smoothly through the power band.

The handling is excellent. At high speeds it is firmly planted on the road. The cornering is excellent.

The interior is quite roomy in front, but rather small for the passengers.

Rear wheel drive makes for interesting driving in snow and slippery conditions. While the positive traction rear end is beneficial to keep from getting stuck, it makes the rear end of the car to want to spin sideways in slippery conditions. This also includes wet pavement where a quick burst of gas can have this car sideways very quickly.

Gas mileage is excellent in highway driving, but in town this car is a little thirsty.
