1993 Ford Thunderbird LX V6

Summary:

A sporty, luxury, reliable, beauty!

Faults:

I haven't had this car for very long, but since I have had it the only real problem had been the rear view mirror falling off. It has fallen off 3 times in 5 months. Also, I think I feel the transmission starting to act up, and the brakes are really bad. I have heard a lot of bad things about t-bird brakes.

General Comments:

Overall this is a really nice car. It is very comfortable and it rides so smooth you can hardly tell that the car is running. It has lots of space and it is GREAT on gas millage. Also the power windows zoom up and down so fast! The doors are a bit heavy and closing them is sometimes a problem. Also the car is so very low that it bottoms out a lot. I love this car and would recommend it to anyone.

Okay, the car bottoms out. It's not your old Cherokee. I now own my third and have NEVER had that problem. As far as the rearview mirror... clean the contact surfaces well. Regular super glue will fix that. Bad brakes...hmmmmm. This isn't the IROC series downtown. Brakes should last about 30,000 miles. Each time pads/shoes are replaced, drums/rotors should also be turned. This makes the brakes perform better and last longer between servicing. Front rotors will need to be replaced between 90k and 120k due to normal wear.

1993 Ford Thunderbird LX 5.0 V8

Summary:

Well built and looks great!

Faults:

Front brake rotors needed regular replacement. Transmission went out at 100,000 miles. Tail lights do not have replaceable bulbs... replaced 2 expensive assemblies.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car!

Bought it new as a lease, then bought it again for real when the lease expired.

The car handles like a dream and rides beautifully.

The light grey color of the dash reflects annoyingly at times on the windshield, but I have learned to accept this as the way the car is.

I was the original owner of a 1993 Thunderbird LX myself and had to replace the back tail light bulbs on occasion too. However, you do not need to replace the entire tail light fixture. You can access the bulb from the trunk area. There is a plastic trim piece that you need to undo from the side needing the bulb, then you will see the bulb held in place with a clip. Pull it out and replace as needed. Hope this will help anyone out there with this situation.

I absolutely loved this car and it performed like a champ! I lost mine due to a careless driver on the road.

1993 Ford Thunderbird LX 3.8L

Summary:

This is a beautiful car to look at, but is not worth the money that is spent to keep it running

Faults:

My head gasket blew at 40,000 miles.

I have had to replace my engine.

My blocked has cracked.

My car goes through water pumps often.

The radiator has problems often.

General Comments:

As far as roominess and comfort, the car is above average.

This car has definite power.

The seats are a bit uncomfortable due to the fact that they lean back.

This car is not reliable as far as maintenance.

This car is more of a headache financially than any other vehicle on the road.

Sounds like straight water was used in the cooling system. Cracked block? It got cold, the water foze... cracked block.

Water pump problems? Water has no lubrication quality. Antifreeze/coolant does. Radiator problems? Water causes corrosion. Antifreeze/coolant prevents that when mixed with the water. Ford had recalls on head gaskets for the 3.8, did you check into this?

1993 Ford Thunderbird LX 3.8 V6

Summary:

Excellent car with great power and reliability

Faults:

I have not had one single thing go wrong with this car since I have owned it. I have had it for nearly 40,000 miles, and it is now well over 125,000.

Simple routine maintenance, oil and plugs.

Haven't ever had to change alternator or battery, etc.

General Comments:

This is one of the best cars I've ever had. With the V6, I have plenty of power. You don't realize how much power this car has until you drive another car and find it has less.

This car really jumps off the line, and you can easily burn the tires.

The seats are extremely comfortable, especially on long trips. I never get the rear end pains that I got with other cars (Oldsmobile)
