1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6 Liter V8

Summary:

A great car for performance upgrades, or just a daily driver

Faults:

The passenger side head gasket leaks oil.

Rear differential bushing worn out.

Driver's side door sags and needs new door pins.

Radiator side tank started to leak so replaced the radiator.

Power antenna mast replaced.

Headlight turned yellow and leaked so replaced with new ones.

Transmission shifted hard into second gear - accumulator spring broken - replaced springs and flushed transmission fluid - replaced with Mercon V fluid - Ford bulletin.

General Comments:

This car has plenty of power.

I have updated many of things on the engine and transmission to make it faster.

Very reliable, comfortable, and handles great.

A site to look at if you like Thunderbirds is www.tccoa.com

There are many people who get together and have meets around the Charlotte and Pinehurst area in NC.

I have a 1995 ford Thunderbird LX and I have been searching every where for after market performance headlights. All I can find are the regular headlights.. nothing special.. does anyone know where I can find something like this?

1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6L V8

Summary:

A surprisingly great all-around car

Faults:

Had a bunch of random EGR system problems right after buying. Took over a month and 6 visits to the auto shop to get it finally "fixed." Inner p/s door handle broke (someones fault). Alternator went at 145,000. Routine items: brakes, tires, etc..

General Comments:

I was not a Ford fan when I picked my green baby up. The next day I was hooked. This car is amazingly fun to drive. It handles well, has decent power, and is extremely comfortable. I got power everything, the only thing I left out was the moon roof (unfortunately). This car still hangs in there on long road trips despite the high mileage. I am currently in the process of trying to find another 1995 LX V8 with the full package, Silver, moon roof, and under 80,000 on the odometer. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great!

-green LEDs mounted in front bumper

-green lights throughout inside.

1995 Ford Thunderbird LX - V8 4.6 Liter

Summary:

Rare Bird with great TORQUE

Faults:

According to the tech at Firestone, the manifold gasket has leak, need replacement soon, labor cost $450.

Oil leak somewhere, no smoke no fire. The amazing thing about this car is, when there is something wrong, it still feels so powerful even with oil leak problem.

General Comments:

The basic V6 might be a little slow, but this V8 has 205 horsepower. It may not be a lot compare to newer cars these days, but at 265-280 torque, it is amazing for me to race against someone going uphill.

For those of you who don't already know, use the overdrive button on freeway and change it to 3rd gear. Great way for racing.

THe power windows roll up/down really fast (according to some of my friends/passengers).

After 8 years and 67000 miles, the brake pads are still good.

Nice big powerful car. Look most of the other reviewers here said, you don't see a lot of nice TBird these days on the road.

Read seats can't be fold down, but the trunk is pretty roomy.

1995 Ford Thunderbird SC 3.8L V6 Supercharged

Summary:

Fun on the freeway, pain at the pump

Faults:

The transmission slips under moderate to hard acceleration, especially between 3rd, 4th, and overdrive.

Rear brake calipers froze shut at a red light.

The clear-coat has worn away in places, leaving rough silver patches in the black paint job -- still no rust though.

Door-mounted speakers have become damaged over time.

General Comments:

Neck-snapping acceleration hampered by a faltering transmission-- 2nd to 3rd gear gives you an abrupt if satisfying 'thunk,' but highway on-ramps can a bit difficult to negotiate.

The supercharged engine needs premium, and the car does not inspire fuel-efficient driving :)

The car is front-heavy. This combined with the rear wheel drive makes winter driving a hazardous proposition.

4-wheel ABS helps.
