1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6 OHC V8

Summary:

A high performance bargin with comfort

Faults:

There is a miss on acceleration which lasts a short time.

General Comments:

I have owned a 1993 Thunderbird and now a 1995 Thunderbird. This car has a minor acceleration problem, however it is extremely quick. The car is a blast to drive and of the seven passengers I have had in the car 6 have made an offer. The options are great and the ride is smooth. The gas mileage is a great surprise as I am getting 20 mph in town and close to 30 mph on the highway at speed. Hats off to Ford for producing the car, and shame on Ford for discontinuing the model. I test drove a new (2003) Thunderbird and kept the 1995.

Yeah I think the 1995 Ford Thunderbird is a great car and don't plan on getting a new one!

1995 Ford Thunderbird LX V6

Summary:

Good looking car with a lot of problems

Faults:

Had to replace brakes, but that is normal.

Needs new transmission.

Had to replace catalytic converter (500 bucks, don't know why it was so high)

Had to do some serious rewiring because of a fire behind the dash (still having problems)

General Comments:

This car is a great looking car from the outside, but has some major problems.

The interior is very comfortable, the only beef I have is why are the cupholders in a spot that you can't reach them?

For the most part, I have heard good things about thunderbirds, but maybe I just got a lemon because I have spent almost three thousand dollars in repairs and it still won't run right. I guess that's why they say fix or repair daily...

1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6L V8

Faults:

So far, nothing has gone wrong. Only had it a month though and 2,000 miles.

General Comments:

I love the combination of comfort with power! I did replace the head unit with a Pioneer CD player. Seats are very supportive and comfortable over long drives (already driven it 1200 miles in two days).

Fastest stock vehicle I've ever owned!

Update on status:

I've now owned the car just about 2 years. It has over 111,000 miles on it now (21,000+ with me).

Couple of minor problems:

1: Paint. The paint was wearing lightly when purchased, but spending 2 years in Texas has caused it to burn off badly. After 10 years, I guess it's time for a new paint job. :)

2: The Mass Air Flow sensor was replaced around 100k miles. This is normal with the 4.6L engine.

As for the rest of the car? Only done basic maintenance (tires/brake pads/fluid changes).

It's been great and hopefully will continue to be great!

My daily driver! With other choices being 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited, and 1989 Dodge Daytona.

1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6 OHC V8

Summary:

A 4.6 V-8 engine... what more could you want

Faults:

So far the only thing which stands out is that anywhere between 40-50 miles per hour, the car starts to shake, but if you go 1 mile per hour faster it comes out of it.

General Comments:

I am a sixteen year old boy. I love to race this car. I recently beat a 5.0 Mustang GT. I sadly recently lost to a Dodge Viper RT/10 (who wouldn't). I've put racing seats and pedals on my car to make it a little eater looking, but overall its tight as all hell. To my knowledge the car has 330 hp out of the factory, but due to minor altifications I ave gotten it's hp to 428. This car handel's like a dream. It drives fast (my max was about... 150 I believe) and can turn on a dime. It's perfect for going to the movies, or for racing against poor unsuspecting souls. Overall this has got to be one of the best cars on the road, plus you don't see as many of these as you do Mustangs so i'ts like a one-of-a-kind.

Not even close to 330 hp. More like 220hp. 150mph?? My Mark VIII wouldn't do that and it had 280hp.

13th Mar 2003, 21:19

Sorry little guy the 1995 t-bird 4.6 V8 only comes with 205hp the 3.8 has 140-145 and the 3.8 super coupe has 255hp.

15th Nov 2003, 22:53

Boy, you are waaayyy off the mark here... sorry to burst your delusional bubble! I own a 95 4.6L T-Bird and have done pretty extensive mods to the motor (chip, cat-back system, smaller pulleys, injectors, etc.) and am now pulling about 260 horses... (stock it is 205 h.p)...

I can hang in with a new Mustang G.T. but have been beaten by a couple Z-28's, and as for your top speed, it is limited to 105 mph stock... I have a chip that gets rid of the limiter and topped out (drag limited) at approximately 132 mph... am thinking of adding a Vortech supercharger and getting about 360 hp... that's about all you can muster from this setup...

18th Jul 2006, 15:48

Just curious, but does anyone know how to get rid of the limiter? I put a 456 gear in it and well it sux when your car says you're going 105 when you're only going 70. So if anyone can help e-mail me at crystalvector1@yahoo.com if ya remember title with something about the car. Thanks guys I appreciate it.

Yeah, I don't know what he is talking about, but can anyone help me out? I have a 95 Mark 8 4.6l DOHC. OK, what can I do to make this thing faster than what it is? I have beat 05 Mustang GT's in this thing, and bull crap imports without having to floor it. It has a stock motor, but I don't know about the trans; I think it's stock.

OK, how can I get some speed, without the use of a terminator supercharger from a 03 Cobra and intercooler I have, but I want my motor to have the kind of power that will put fire thru the exhaust without spark plugs. I don't care how much it costs from cheap crap (for now) to expensive go fast goodies.

OK, I was thinking about some: cams, exhaust, headers and or pulley kits. Help me out, I gotta an upcoming race against a modified 94 Caprice Lt1 Vortech supercharged this summer 2011. Reach me at Dibbity2000@yahoo.com
