1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6

Summary:

If you want the best of performance and comfort, buy this car!

Faults:

Immediately after buying the car, the taillight went out (but was replaced under warranty).

I had unidentifiable and intermittent transmissions issues for the first year and a half I owned the car.

The trigger button on the gear shift broke.

General Comments:

I'll start with my last complaint, which is the same complaint anyone who has owned this car will tell you: the location of the cup holders on this vehicle is a joke. They are completely useless.

Now, for the good stuff. I love my car to death. It is, by far, the most fun vehicle I've ever owned.

The car is flat-out powerful. The 4.6L V8 engine will have you saying to your passengers, "What hill?" I don't care if you're driving up the steep side of a mountain.

It is difficult to gun the car from lower RPMs. However, if you're already at crusing speed, and perhaps you want to pass someone, you will GO.

The car is also extremely comfortable. This vehicle is the perfect cross between performance and luxury, and the price makes it impossible to ignore. I'm VERY sorry that Ford stopped this particular Thunderbird design because I probably would have been in line to buy a new one when this one dies.

I've enhanced the vehicle in the following ways:

1) K&N Filter

2) DynoMax cat-back exhaust

3) 160-watt head unit

4) 2 amps

5) Dual 10" Crunch subs

6) Moonroof.

1995 Ford Thunderbird LX 4.6 V8

Summary:

V8 and Comfort do go in the same sentence, when it comes to the Thunderbird

Faults:

The brake rotors warp about every 10,000 miles or so.

The plastic trim that runs along the the power drivers seat is broken, I hit it as I was getting out one day. Hard to find another tan color one to replace it.

I need to buy new tires. I have just about burned the current ones off of it.

General Comments:

This is one of the best cars that I have ever driven.

The 4.6 is very reliable, and produces a lot of horsepower. I wish that I could get 20 or so more out of it though. I was beat by a Grand Prix GTP the other day and that just made me mad.

The design of the car is one that will never get old, it was way ahead of its time. It really helped bring out the rear end when I added a rear deck lid spoiler to it. The Super Coupes look the best with the ground effects.

The car handles like no other. I have driven Mustangs and they seem to want to drift more that the Birds. Monte Carlos are not bad, but the front wheel drive just takes away from the fun.

My previous car was 93 Mercury Cougar. It had the 3.8 V6, not as fast as the V8's, but it was not slow by any means. The Cougar was destroyed when a Caprice pulled out in front of me. I was not hurt at all. I look back on the accident and wonder if I had been driving something different than I probably would have gotten hurt. Both cars were totaled. I hit him with the right front of my car going 45 m.p.h. The Cougar is a twin to the T-Bird. Every thing is the same except for the rear windshield and taillights.

My cars paint is fabulous. I have seen others have problems with theres, but if you take care of the paint it should do OK. My color is "Light Evergreen Frost", it is a kind of green, like a light mint green.

After owning both a 3.8 and a 4.6 I would recommend the 4.6. The 3.8 (not so sure about the Super Charged ones) seems to have a lot of trouble with the heads, I have not had an engine problem yet.

Thank you for reading this long review. If you have any questions or if you would like to give suggestions on how to get the extra horsepower put it in a comment.

I have a 95 thunderbird LX V-8. I want to put a flowmaster cat-back dual exhaust on and flowmaster says it will add 20 h.p. It is about 270 dollars. So 20 horse would be added there and a k&n filter would help also.

Yea that's true. I own 95 Windstar 3.8 :) and that engine has problems not serious, but costly... like heads.

I currently own a 1992 Thunder bird with a 3.8 V6. My head gasket didn't go until 180000 miles. The rumor is that the gasket will go at about 100,000 miles. This is by far the best car I have ever owned. It's spacious and it drives great-at least it used to. It sits in my lawn with a 250,000 mile strong running motor. Although it has a body that needs to be rebuilt.

Nice conspiracy theory! I work at a Ford Dealership, and I know that is NOT how any reputable garage operates. Yes, from time to time an employee may get sloppy, and if that is the case whatever damage he causes is replaced no questions. You should also keep in mind that the average mechanic doesn't see the profits that would come from his 'sabotaging' a car, what he would see is a pink slip.

We have better things to do than ruin good cars. Think before you speak.

I had a 2004 mustang which I totaled because a 1995 T-bird decided to pull out in front of me, I missed him when I was going 80 in a 70, he just pulled onto the highway... missed him, hit the guard rail, bounced back only to get clipped by an 18 wheeler, then went onto the shoulder with my trunk now attached to the 18 wheeler, only to hit that T bird and completely obliterate it with my passenger side. Now I own a 1995 T bird and have to say its pretty good drive, sucks up that gas though... kind of weird how I now own a one though, eh?
