1995 Ford Windstar LX 3.8 L

Summary:

What a piece of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!

Faults:

ABS light constantly comes on, sometimes with brake light. Checked numerous times. Problem never resolved.

Brakes have always sounded bad, but reassured numerous times there is nothing wrong with the brakes! Right!!!

Head gasket blown, piston cracked, covered by recall, but incurred $550 in repairs cost I was responsible for, supposedly not covered with the recall!

Power door locks and keyless entry system never works.

General Comments:

Wish I would have never bought the first year model. Love the size and room of the Windstar, but hate the hassle of dealing with the recalls and repairs! Scared to drive it with my 4 kids in it because I don't feel confortable with the braking system.

I bought my 95 Windstar 1 year ago, Aug, 2001. It only had 70,000km on it at the time. It now has 85,000km on it. I had to replace the head gaskets at 75,000km, then only 2 days after it came out of the shop, the motor blew up. It cost me $1300 to replace the head gaskets and then another $4000 to replace the motor. The new motor is very hard on gas, (14 mpg). The dealer tells me there is no problem with the van and it is just one of those things. I tried to trade the van back in, but they wouldn't give me half of what I paid for it. Now I have a brake problem, the ABS is kicking in on dry roads when slowing down. The dealer wants $150 just to look at it, my cure for the time being is to take the fuse out for the ABS. The brakes work just fine without it. This is my first ford, and it will be my last.

1995 Ford Windstar GL V6

Faults:

Well I guess you know the Windstar is JUNK!!!! The dealer (I use that term loosely) replaced the head-gaskets. The brakes are never right. The transmission just started slipping. NOW 12-2-99, after two trips to the garage, the heater is not blowing hot air!!!

General Comments:

I can't wait to pay this LOAD off! After all the BAD treatment from the FORD Dealer. The Ford Motor Co.was no help either. I WILL NOT buy another FORD!!! They should RECALL all 1995 Windstars, they are unsafe to drive!!

I agree with recalling ALL '95 Windstars, mine has just passed the 100k mile mark and the head gasket blew, too late to use the extended warranty, now the transmission is slipping.

The brakes are binding and screeching, PEPBOYS can't see any problem with the pads or disks/drums.

The driver's side window tracks inside the door rusted and fell off so now the window is jammed shut.

Too many other faults to mention :-(

Faults:

Head gaskets failed at 62,000 miles. Very expensive repair, and appears to be very common on this engine, from the number of complaints I've heard.

1995 Ford Windstar GL 6cl

Faults:

Head gasket blown - replaced at no cost under recall, heater core blown.

We had a wheel that was cracked. Car made popping noises, dealer could find nothing wrong. Les Schwab found the problem.

General Comments:

Will never buy a car again the first year it is made.

1995 Ford Windstar XLT 3.0L

Faults:

Head gasket (recall).

Water pump (recall).

Brakes.

General Comments:

I had an Aerostar before this and I finally got rid of it with about 190,000 miles. This is a good van with plenty of room for my family. Also good gas mileage for a van!

What water pump recall are you referring to? My 1995 Windstar went through its water pump at about 70K. Now the head gasket has just blown. I also have the ABS problem you refer to and just like you, nobody can fix it. Is this another inherent problem with the 1995 Windstar? Let me know about the water pump recall please.

My '95 Windstar has been heating up on short grades. I think it is the radiator but could it be the water pump? I'd appreciate any information about a water pump recall. I haven't heard of one yet. Mkaybowman@aol.com.
