1997 Ford Windstar GL 3.8
Summary:
My husband says we will NOT buy another ford
Faults:
Within the first year the car would shut off when coming to a stop and had that repaired at my cost twice.
Overhead lights would come on and stay on.
Door ajar chime would come on and stay on for long periods of time.
Noise in wheels when turning.
Service engine light always seemed to be on.
Heater core had a leak and had to be replaced.
Antifreeze in the heads. White smoke coming out of tailpipe.
Rear air vents only blew hot air on bottom regardless if the a/c was on, NO air would come out of top vents.
Sliding door locks don't work automatically.
Rear view mirrors don't work automatically.
Rear speakers have NEVER worked in the car.
General Comments:
The car would shut off when rolling to a stop and had to be repaired twice at my cost.
The interior lights would stay on.
The door ajar chime would come on and stay on, I tell everyone that is the complimentary music from Ford.
The sliding door locks do not function autmatically anymore, has to be done manually.
I live in the South where it gets nice and hot so when the rear vents only blow out HOT air when the A/C is on makes for a great ride with 3 children.
My husband just replaced the head gaskets because antifreeze getting into the heads.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I must agree with this review. My father owns a 1996 windstar and has had all of the mentioned problems as well as others. I bought a 1997 in 2001, because I got a great price on it. We picked it up for $5500 with 50000 miles on it. It ran great for first 2 years, now we have put ABS, head cover gasket, and the speedometer went out. They want $650 for a new one! I wrote Ford, and they ignored me. I would never buy another Ford, which is what I told them when I wrote to them. I also explained that my father owned 1964, 1973,1980,1988, and his present 1996 ford. He too will no longer be a ford man. Perhaps they should meet with the folks at toyota and get a few tips on how to build a quality vehicle!
