1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8

Summary:

Absolute junk

Faults:

This is my second 1999 Ford Windstar (Ford gave me a new one after I threatened them with lemon law on my first one that had 9,000 miles on it)This one is only slightly better. I have put up with a pinging engine, faulty head gaskets, transmission issues, module failure, and a host of other issues...from electrical to door latches. I will never own another Ford vehicle as long as I live.

General Comments:

This vehicle is seriously flawed.

Its not only the vehicle that is flawed, its FORD itself that is flawed!!! Its funny that these jokers now want the American public to bail them out because of their own incompetence. If you are going to buy American at least buy GM.

1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L

Summary:

Again_ I will never buy a Ford again

Faults:

We have had to replace inner and outer tie rods twice, transmission 4 times, power steering, 3 sets of brakes, and are now on our second go at the infamous code 171/174 intake manifold replacements at $1000 a pop. Of course the has been a TSB on this since it seems to happen to ALL Windstars between 98-2001 or so, but no recall. Also had to have rear wiper motor replaced twice, and one SEATBELT replaced! Peeling paint on front hood makes the car look even better!

I will never buy a Ford again.

That is the best advice I can give someone, I owned a FORD (biggest mistake of my life) and I am glad others feel the same way.

I get those same codes on our van. I heard that you can just change the oxygen sensors?? or am I wrong?? what else was done to clear those codes??

1999 Ford Windstar SE 3.8

General Comments:

I am just wondering how many transmission are going out on the Ford Windstar because the wrong fluid is being used in it. Most Fords and othe vehicles use dexron 3 transmission fluid, but the Windstar must use a transmission fluid known as ma5. Dexron 3 cannot be used in the place of it. Using the wrong fluid will put strain and heat in a transmission and it will go out in no time. Transmissions are very delicate. Don't take for granted that the quick change place knows what it uses too. They just might guess and guess wrong.

1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L

Summary:

A lemon and Ford won't atone

Faults:

Transmission failure and replacement (twice) @ 49000 miles.

Electrical problems galore (auto door locks don't work properly, O/D light comes on sporadically for no reason)

The paint on the hood is half peeled off; it's obviously because the primer underneath wasn't prepped properly. It started to bubble up from underneath and then peel off. Ford won't take credit.

General Comments:

This car is a lemon and the dealer won't back up Ford manufacturer.

I will never buy another Ford as long as I live. I now own three Toyotas, even though I always wanted to buy "American".

Ford had to be taken to court before it would offer any compensation on the faulty electrical modules it installed in many of its models.

1999 Ford Windstar LX

Summary:

Piece of junk - would never buy a Ford again!!!

Faults:

With only 66,000 km and only 6 years old, our overdrive light started flashing, and we had had shifting problems for months. On my way to the dealership to check out an oil leak, the van started pouring out transmission fluid. $3800 to take the transmission apart and replace the torque converter and reassemble the transmission.

The heater motor died in the spring - $250 to fix that.

General Comments:

Resale for this van with only 66,000 km with the transmission working was only $8500. Not worth fixing the transmission. Poor value for a van we paid over $30000 for.

Decided to dump the van as is and buy a new Honda Odyssey!
