1999 Ford Windstar LX

Summary:

Avoid at all costs!!

Faults:

Transmission failure in June 2004, then again in 2007. Changed power steering pump, still making "whining" noises; changed tie-rods, manifold, etc... Will NEVER buy a Ford again, and that's a shame, since my dad always had Ford when I was growing up...

1999 Ford Windstar 3.0

Summary:

A big, expensive mistake

Faults:

Let me see, where do I start? I bought my 1999 Ford Windstar in Feb. 2007. It had 120,000 miles on it. It looked and drove like it was in good shape. 2 weeks after I bought it the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer. They said it was the EGR valve and replaced it. A day later we had trouble starting it. The dealer had it towed and they said it was the starter. So, they replaced that. Over the next week or two it was still giving us problems starting. I took it to another mechanic (a friend) and he found the positive connector to the battery post was so corroded it was barely there, other than cosmetically. He replaced the connector and haven't had a problem with starting it since and the check engine light went out finally also. Then 2 weeks ago, while trying to take off from a stop sign, THUD!!! we only had reverse. My automatic transmission was replaced last week by the dealer, as he gave me the best price, $1,200. I picked it up Friday just before they closed. Now the shifter is real stiff to move and it feels like the engine is going to stall whenever I slow down to stop. The transmission seems to be shifting alright, but now we are having all these other problems. Could the repair shop have caused these problems? I'm thinking absolutely. I'm bringing it back in the morning, but I'm feeling very skeptical about these guys now. Any advice?

General Comments:

It's a nice looking, roomy, NIGHTMARE.

1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8

Summary:

This is the worst car I ever owned

Faults:

I had to replace the manifold intake head gasket 3 time. Once under warranty the other two at my expense. I found out that there was a design flaw in the gasket. Ford doesn't stand behind it.

At 62K mile the transmission is gone. Est cost $2400-$3000.

General Comments:

Beware! Do not buy a Windstar!

1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8

Summary:

Stay Away From Them

Faults:

Well I read all these reviews and still bought the Windstar, I liked the looks and also the ride, I owned it 2 months and guess what, the tranny dropped, I guess according to these reviews I got it rebuilt at a bargain for $2000, drove it 6 more months and the alternator bite the dust, $350 there, and now I have a bad shaking in the front, probably gonna be another $400 or so, I should've believed everyone trading it in now, couldn't feel right about selling it to someone, I'm gonna try a Kia, got almost $7500 off the sticker with rebates and such, never went foreign before, but it can't be any worse, before the Windstar I also got beat up by a Voyager, so its time to try something else!
